Door Trim Clean up question

Recommended Posts

I have a set of the body trim (just below the window).

There are 3 pieces per side (front fender, back dender, and door) and each piece has a rubber piece that sits in the middle of it.

My question is, "What is a good way to clean these up?".

They have minor pitting and the rubber is not rotted but I would like to "brighten" them up (they are black rubber).

Also how does the rubber attached to the trim piece - some kind of glue or other adhesive?

Thanks

Are you talking about the riveted-on door ding preventer strips?

The aluminum is anodized and the pitting is where the anodized surface has failed. They can be polished, but you will probably need to remove them from the car. The vinyl insert can be restored using any good plastic polish.

You can get new stuff at the following link.

Yes, if we all agree that we are talking about the trim in the previously posted link....the vinyl inserts will just peel out of the aluminum. Getting them back in works well with a little lube, like a liquid soap. The inserts need to be slightly longer than the aluminum holders because the plastic shrinks in the cold. The vinyl inserts can also be spray painted in a color of your choice with a plastic compatible paint, if you don't want to buy new ones.
