As an alternative, you could use some late MGB mirrors. I just put them on my Z when I had some paintwork done and got rid of the stupid, small black plastic useless mirrors the PO had put on. The MGB mirrors are available from Moss or Victoria British (aka Black Dragon) and are for a '77 ~ '80 MGB, and cost about $35 each new. You can grab some from a pick-and-pull for a couple bucks each.

Well those look a hell of a lot better then the black plastic things on my Z now. And cheaper then the stock ones. I just looked again at courtesy and it says they are a special order item, and make take 3 months to deliver.

DougN thanks for showing us an affordable ideal for getting chrome mirrors on both sides. Question... did you have to drill new holes or were they direct bolt ons?

My car did not have the original holes, but my guess is you may need to drill at least one new hole. I'll measure the distance between them later and post it, so you can tell for sure. As long as the base covers the old holes, should be no worries.

I drilled two new holes as the PO had put these plastic mirrors at the very front of the door.

Thank you Doug, I'd realy like to have a mirror on the passengers side. My daily driver is a Mazda Miata, and I live and die by the use of the mirror on the right side because of the inherent blide spot with th esoft top. The more I drive my Z the more I want that right mirror too. Your mirrors look period correct which is what I need as well.

I got around to measuring the MGB mirrors, and the measurements are as follows:

-- The base is 3.5" long, and 1.5" wide.

-- Holes are 1 3/8" apart at the centers.

Hope this helps you determine if you need to drill new holes, and/or if the base will cover whatever existing holes you may have!

Hi All

I am new to this website and saw this thread. I am located in Australia and we got the right hand side door mirror. This mirror is not a flipped around mirror for the left hand side but a genuine right hand side door mirror. It is a mirror image of the left hand side. I know this as I have bought a new left hand side one from USA and have compared it against our right hand side ones. The right hand door mirrors are hard to get here and fetch around $150 if you can get one. You may get lucky and find one on the Australian Ebay site. Hope this helps.

I have been watching AU ebay for years, contacted Warren, and even had an infamous and well travled bloody bastard from down under try to find one...no luck so far.

I am still working out making one-the hardware is the holdup-I have castings for the arm, but de/re-cripming the mirror is seriously a hit and miss situation-at best!

I hope this resurrection helps someone here. I just completed my passenger's side mirror and it came out nicely. I bought two original mirrors from courtesy nissan, flipped one and made a base out of aluminim for the passengers side to compensate for the camber. However the flat mirror was less than desirable due to the small field of vision. So I took a convex mirror (from a honda, but you can use pretty much any car's) and I used this dremmel bit ($6.00 on ebay) to score/cut the mirror to the proper shape and size. It was easier to clamp the dremmel to the bench and move the mirror back and forth.

Then I siliconed the convex mirror onto the flat one. I'm extremely satisfied with the results. The mirror looks original (even though the car did not come with it) and it is MUCH safer to drive due to the increased visibility.
