Hi all...I have a quick question...I am running a e12-80 dis and wanted to know if it would be worth while to switch to a msd 6a or something comparable to it..reason i ask is i would like hotter spark i already have wires and a blaster 2 coil installed just don't want to waste money on something that's not necessary...so is the e12-80 a powerful ignition?is there any specs on it?

As I understand it, the E12-80 is the trigger mechanism, it really has little or nothing to do with how hot the spark is, other than perhaps the duration and things like that. The coil (and whether you are using the ballast resistor) is the part that determines the "hotness" of the spark.

I'd guess that a Blaster 2 should be plenty hot enough for most any streetable L-series. Just make sure you are making the most of that spark - use top notch wires, cap and rotor, and wide gap plugs. I'm running NGK BPR6EY-11 with the black Pertronix Flame Thrower coil in my L24. Works well.

... I speak from experience having been zapped by both....

Can you quantify that "zap" experience for us?LOL

Was it an "Oh my! That really hurt!" zap or a "Somebody call 911, I think I just lost a finger!" zap? ROFL

Sorry. No insult intended. My naturally smart-allecky nature wouldn't let me keep quiet...

:stupid:

Big Thanks for the replys ... so i guess a upgrade would be worth it from what i gather correct? Would it also cut down on exhaust fumes at idle with the multiple spark?

I have been looking at this ignition below.. has anybody had any experience with the Summit street strip cd ignitions?

I'm still not convinced that it truly is necessary for a normal street-tuned motor. Not that it would be bad, but I don't know that you'd notice much difference over what you now have. Are you suffering from symptoms of not having a enough spark now?

no my car runs good..my main concern is cutting exhaust fumes down at idle...plus i would like to burn as much of the mixture as possible and maybe get a little better millage and response ...what is a good plug gap for the e12-80 with a blaster 2 with no resistor?

I think it is worth it. I seem to remember that I got better mileage with it, and I had a friend to back to back dyno runs with and without MSD and picked up 8 hp with it. I can't speak to the exhaust fumes, but I think that's probably a hatch seal issue or a leaky exhaust.

I would suggest the 6AL or equivalent from Crane or Summit. The rev limiter is a nice function to have.
