yellow series one on Ebay

See my second visit impressions below!!! I went by Titus, in Carrollton, TX to see the yellow series one on ebay. I must say that it would be worth it for close to what they are asking. The car is straight and I couldn't find any rust. Very clean. A restoration of this quality would definitely cost much more than the asking price: It's not one of those cheap basket case refreshed Zs. I only spent less that 10 minutes looking at it, and didn't drive it. I am not affiliated with the seller, and have my own series one. I wish I had the $$. Just thought some of you might want to know, as most of us on here are real Z freaks. If anyone wants me to stop by and inspect it for you, let me know. My own mechanic happens to be 2 doors down from their showroom, and I frequent his shop. Just an FYI...

I know that car very well. It originally came from Datson Datsun in Midland Texas. Later, it was restored and brought to North Texas Nissan in '02 for they're grand opening, along with a restored black 1600 and a restore white early Patrol. All three sat out front for a year, then the Z went out back where it sat and faded for three years. The Datson dealer emblem was stolen(That's is the actual name of the former Datsun dealer in Midland), and the car sat under a cover which eventually rotted away. I guess you could say it was as close to a "factory" restore Z as you could get. But, I studied it carefully, and know that it is/was far from a rustfree shell. Both rear quarters have been patched from the doglegs to and around the wheel flairs. The rockers seemed solid, but still showed signs of rock chips in past paint merely covered with new paint. The doors are wavy to say the least, and the undercarriage has had a healthy coat of undercoating applied. The intererior was mostly NOS as well as the exterior emblems, bumpers, etc.

So, you be the judge. True, you couldn't restore a decent one for what they're asking, which six years ago the asking price was more than $20K. Anyway, just a little more info for the interested.

Patch it, put a few new parts on it, touch up the paint, and then park it for three years isn't my idea of a 'restore'. Six years ago it might have been worth today's asking price.

Upon furthur inspection today (I had to go back and look closer, as I am always curious how other Zs compare to mine), I would like to edit my first impressions of the car. I did find some more issues. The mismatched paint on the doors and rockers is noticable for sure, but the photos actually exagerate it. Somehow, in the sunlight, it doesn't seem so noticable. In the right light, you might not notice, but I personally couldn't live with it. Doors have some waviness to them. The car pulls to the left on braking. Motor seems good, perhaps needs carb tuning/balancing. There is some knocking under acceleration. The ride is comfortable and smooth. Accelerates and shifts well. Shifting at 6000rpm or less is advisable, as it doesn't develop any more usable power above 6 grand. Drivers seat has been redone on the inside, but the strapping underneath drivers seat is good, but needs to be re-attatched. After a 5 minute drive, the car leaked coolant from the radiator cap over flow tube (sorry, don't know the correct technical term for that one), and the thermostat swung toward hot in a hurry. Yes, there has indeed been work done to both quarters. There is a bubble below and to the front of the fuel door. There is some minor cracking on the quarter below the rear bumper on the drivers side. Rear hatch area has very minor rust on the deck. Radio doesn't work, but the antenna does. Spot weld on unit body behind the radiator, but the frame is straight, and floor pans are good. The dash must be from a later Z, as the dash cig lighter has been plugged. Ignition takes a totally different key which is only cut on one side. Nice dash, though.

Rear end has a leak. They say they will take $12,000, maybe even a little less. Overall, it is a nice Z, and certainly right for someone.:ermm: I will be keeping mine...

I have seen this one listed a couple times before, once at $18,995 then again at $16,995.I really liked the hi-res photos, they do tell a better picture than most (pun intended).

I noticed the faded doors right off and didnt think they were becoming of a $19K car.

If they are willing to take $11K, I would hate to be the one to do a BIN price of $15,995.

Especially after reading the history of it.

Looking at the pictures I notice the car is very clean and nice but as many have already commented the paint does not match, waves in the door and the finish on some of the interior is a bit off. I also think the bumpers need a bit of work. All in all it is nice example but would still need a lot of work to get it close to price they are asking for it. I would say it is probably worth somewhere in $7-9k range IMO.

Just my 2 cents

Don't get me wrong Tarmac it also looks better than mine but I paid $4k and this one is only slightly better but has less body problem than mine. To me not worth the extra $8k unless the body is perfect as I can easily get a body job done for $8k that would fix all my body problems.
