kats Posted January 18, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2009 (edited) Hi,I posted an interesting thing of a parts catalog in my web site.You can see it here,http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/philo.htmlSome of you already knew it, the parts catalog (both USA/CANADA and RHD model) has 5 page inserts, each paper has very good instructions for mechanic/sales people of the dealership, also they are very worth to read even for us now.Is this a Mr.K's idea? How do you say in English like these words, an instruction? philosophy? policy?We, in Japan, I have never seen such a thing in the parts catalog/service manual/bulletin e.t.c.I put a title "Mr.K's philosophy" for this page,but I want to know what is a best way to describe.Any advice will be appreciated.Thank you,kats Edited January 18, 2009 by kats add some words Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I would be surprised if those pages were only part of the S30 Sports literature. I would think of Mr. K philosophy that the page would be in all the service / parts manuals. If this is true, then it would point to specific Mr. K influence.The "Dealer Facility" literature ( I am so jealous ) is called in architectural language as a facility program. This information would describe all the features that should be included in the design and construction of a new sales dealership. One of Mr. K's responsibilites in the US was to set up a network of dealerships. This literature was probably prepared by an architect to describe the thoughts of operation and space a Datsun dealer would need to successfully sell Datsuns. I'm sure this is a premier example of "Mr. K marketing". I love the graphic renderings. They are so "70's"! I would have Mr. K sign it if I were you. First of all they are common sense, and secondly the philosophy already exists. I was reminded of this quite bluntly when I arrived back at London Heathrow airport after flying back from Japan last week.........Katayama san may well have pushed this 'philosophy' for the north American market operation of the company that employed him, but I believe the philosophy - not to mention the major part of the business model - was pioneered in the north American market by Dr Karl Hahn, working as the boss of Volkswagen of America ( set up in 1955 ) from 1958 onwards. Hahn appointed D.D.B. as Volkswagen's advertising company for the USA market, which led to a revolution in the advertising world just as much as a revolution in the way that small, economical but good quality foreign cars were sold in north America. Katayama and his colleagues would have been well aware of the way that VWoA was set up, and their business model and selling strategy. It was a trail that had already been marked for them...... Hi Chris, and Alan Thank you for your inputs, I should ask other NISSAN/DATSUN manuals to confirm these Tenets are only for S30 or not.
