January 21, 200916 yr comment_271656 If the ignition coil is 'properly' connected and it's not giving off spark then the coil is defective. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30560-the-coil-isnt-getting-spark/#findComment-271656 Share on other sites
January 21, 200916 yr comment_271679 If the ignition coil is 'properly' connected and it's not giving off spark then the coil is defective.Do you mean "properly connected" as in connected to a working distributor/ignition module? :laugh:Steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30560-the-coil-isnt-getting-spark/#findComment-271679 Share on other sites
January 21, 200916 yr comment_271683 Since the 280 hasn't fired in quite a few years, there are about a jillion other things to consider as well as a bum coil. Have you gone over the pre-start check list for a car coming out of hibernation?Frank Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30560-the-coil-isnt-getting-spark/#findComment-271683 Share on other sites
January 22, 200916 yr comment_271686 When that happened to my carberated car I ran a wire directly from the main hot wire directly to the coil and it worked. January 22, 200916 yr comment_271693 When that happened to my carberated car I ran a wire directly from the main hot wire directly to the coil and it worked. That might not be advisable with electronic ignition. January 22, 200916 yr comment_271707 Yep, hence the parentheses around the word.Just checking. It could also be a stuck vacuum advance. Those things can cause so many problems that you'd never think they could. :laugh:Steve Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30560-the-coil-isnt-getting-spark/#findComment-271707 Share on other sites
January 22, 200916 yr comment_271720 The coil would still produce spark even if the advance is stuck. Side note:It just dawned on me where that quote in you signature comes from. Isn't the lyric "If He Really Thinks We're the Devil, Then Let's Send 'em to Hell"? January 22, 200916 yr comment_271721 The coil would still produce spark even if the advance is stuck. Side note:It just dawned on me where that quote in you signature comes from. Isn't the lyric "If He Really Thinks We're the Devil, Then Let's Send 'em to Hell"?Or be the root cause of a miss at 4000 rpm for that matter, if you know what I mean. You are correct about the quote, I modified it a little for my own use. There's some disagreement about whether it's "'em" or "him" with him seeming to make more sense because of "He" but whatever. The quote is aimed mainly at those who consider us to be the Great Satan. January 22, 200916 yr comment_271722 But his car doesn't run and I think the coil is the least of his worries as the original poster hasn't answered yet. As far at the other, I could really get off topic here with discussions of musical form, lyrics and their meaningss, etc. since that sort of thing is also one of my major interests but I'm not sure the rest would be able to take it.
