Compatible shifter for Jatco trans

Are you looking for a shift lever to replace the T shifter?

If so get one from a 2nd gen maxima FWD. You will have to cut it down then drill and tap the shift rod to fasten it. I have one in my zxt with the 4 spd auto, which also has the OD switch in the handle.

My current car probably has hydraulic lockup, so every time I touch the gas pedal when the TC is locked, it shifts down and drives you nuts..........
Nope, no lockup like ozconnection said. What happens there is that when you depress the pedal, it contacts the kickdown switch located on the accelerator linkage which actuates the dowshift solenoid on the trans case which causes the trans to shift down. There are adjustments for that in the FSM.

My downshift solenoid must be faulty. It's probaly the only thing the trans guy didn't replace when the transmission was rebuilt. I will see if I can activate it with a direct shunt from a battery; like a 14V NiCad pack. It will tell you if it does work or not. Otherwise, the only times the Z transmission will kickdown is when you are going somewhat slowly up a slight hill or incline and give it WOT, so you have lots of vacuum. There's no kickdown cruising down a level roadway. There's no clicking of the solenoid at all.

There's rain today, so it's a good time to poke around.

Perhaps there's a book on the Jatco 3N71B besides the FSM? Some information regarding the vacuum kickdown might be useful.
