Parts Store Fun

I just had to share this. Today, I went to my local Oriliey Auto Parts Store. Its close and has most of the little things I need and I can go online and order and have stuff shipped without paying shipping costs. I went to pick up the upper radiator hose I ordered in today with a couple of little things. The guy at the counter asked if he could help me, and I told him I needed the upper rad hose for a 1972 Datsun 240Z. He furiously typed away on the keyboard, scrolled around with the mouse and looked confused. I asked him to look under the Nissan lable to find it.

He proudly told me that he knew his imports and that Nissan didnt make anything like that and that he could not find a Dihatsu 240Z!!! I spelled it out to him D-A-T-S-U-N and that is was under the Nissan banner, I ordered on line and it was delivered with a parts drop yesterday. He was adamant that the car was never made and he knew what he was talking about. Finally the manager came over and asked what the problem was, went to the Nissan banner pulled up the 240 got the number went back and brought me my hose.

I was laughing so hard when I left it wasnt even funny!!! I dont hold it against the kid or the store, it is just funny now I have to take the non-existing car up there the next time I go to show the Import Expert!

Almost as bad as the kid behind the counter that Swore up and down that my car was a 240SX. I kept repeating myself, saying "LOOK UP DATSUN 240Z, Z as in Zebra. IT"S A 70' NOT A 90"!!!!

I finally had to him to get the manager, The kid goes to get the manager and I hear them on the way back to the counter, the manager is telling the kid, " Ya, a Datsun 240Z, What, are you new??" "I thought you said you know everything about imports"??

Needless to say, the manager put the kid in his place. I got my parts and the kid kept giving me a dirty look, as if I just disgraced him in front of God himself. Kid lost his job a week later for being rude to customers.

I've gotten to where I generally just tell them I have a Nissan 240Z, to get them started looking in the right area of the catalog. Although I do have to admit being partial to the online places that have a separate section for Datsun :)

At the better parts place in town that actually employees adults I'm able to tell them I need something for a Datsun 240Z without it confusing them though.

I have had a few 'kids' ask me if they could "rechip" my engine computer after noticing the engine has fuel injection. They look at you like you're crazy when you tell them "there's no engine computer. No computers at all." on the car. The same thing has happened when I was looking around town for a place that can service MY 280Z EFI system. Of course, every place you call says "they know fuel injection" and when your get there, they tell you they can't find the plug to connect the scanner!:ogre:

I think they might recognize "Pinto..."

Do you think "Delahaye" is an old sctress or a singer?

..."there's no engine computer. No computers at all." on the car. ...

Not to quibble, but the fuel injection control box is technically an analog computer. But from the perspective of a modern digital computer you are technically correct the car doesn't have one.

There is another subject altogether, how many people know what an analog computer is(was) and how they work?

Why do I suddenly feel so old?

;)
