I think those came out the same year as the Epson HX-20 which I think was 1980 with the Timex Sinclair 1000 coming out a couple of years later.

My specific example has to do with a Toyota truck as opposed to my 240z, but I walked into a local AutoZone and asked for a clutch with throw out bearing. The counter guy asks with a straight face is that a manual or automatic transmission?

I just walked out.

Must not be too hard, i went in looking for a Zerk fitting and all three working there didn't have a clue. i had to find them and tell them what they were for. didn't think Zerk fittings were that old, but most new stuff has sealed bearings now i guess.

Here's a thought: Ask them if they know what a 350Z is? Yes, what Nissan Z car came before that? the 300ZX? Great - what about the early Z31 300ZX? The s130 280ZX? Eventually you're going to find the limit of their knowledge. Maybe the answer is to take a picture of your car along with pictures of the entire Z lineage. A picture of your great-great grandfather might mean nothing until you see it laid out in a family tree. The parts guy might quickly realize his computer only goes back to 1980 and can at least admit defeat gracefully.
