January 26, 200916 yr comment_272079 I started college with a cheap $15 manual typewriter, then got a Commodore 64, and wrote my own software to do word-processing. That was real luxury! You still had to re-type your papers to make it look type-written. Yeah, the ECU on my car is analog, but I think of it as more like a transistor radio than a computer... January 26, 200916 yr comment_272089 A couple years ago, I went to Auto Zone and told the kid behind the counter that I need a cap, coil and points for my 1974 Datsun 260Z. He looked at me with a puzzled look on his face and asked.. "Points?". I was about to answer him when another kid who had over heard, told him... "Yeah, points. Old school ignition". I was laughing all the way home... Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30592-parts-store-fun/?&page=2#findComment-272089 Share on other sites

January 26, 200916 yr comment_272101 Commodore VIC-20 was my first. SteveI think those came out the same year as the Epson HX-20 which I think was 1980 with the Timex Sinclair 1000 coming out a couple of years later. January 26, 200916 yr comment_272105 My specific example has to do with a Toyota truck as opposed to my 240z, but I walked into a local AutoZone and asked for a clutch with throw out bearing. The counter guy asks with a straight face is that a manual or automatic transmission?I just walked out. January 26, 200916 yr comment_272107 What exactly ARE the requirements to work at an auto parts store!??? :ogre:Must not be too hard, i went in looking for a Zerk fitting and all three working there didn't have a clue. i had to find them and tell them what they were for. didn't think Zerk fittings were that old, but most new stuff has sealed bearings now i guess. January 26, 200916 yr comment_272109 Here's a thought: Ask them if they know what a 350Z is? Yes, what Nissan Z car came before that? the 300ZX? Great - what about the early Z31 300ZX? The s130 280ZX? Eventually you're going to find the limit of their knowledge. Maybe the answer is to take a picture of your car along with pictures of the entire Z lineage. A picture of your great-great grandfather might mean nothing until you see it laid out in a family tree. The parts guy might quickly realize his computer only goes back to 1980 and can at least admit defeat gracefully.
