Am I just paranoid??

I like driving the 'Z' around, BUT when I remember that I have an errand to do, I usually find the parking spot furthest from the crowd, drag out the club and lock it on to the steering wheel, lock the doors, and set the alarm.

Than while I'm shopping I'm worrying if someone is parking next to it and giving it a nice parking lot door bruise, or if someone is casing it out trying to figure out how to jack the car..... And if I'm ****'s (a locale burger joint).. I can't relax at all

Sometimes I think it would be easier on the nerves to own a Porsche..... :surprised

Don't worry, it's perfectly normal paranoia. I get like that and I currently live in rural Utah with a Z that isn't even painted. I still can't believe I used to leave it untended in mall parking lots in Tempe.

1) When we go out to dinner, I park the car wher I can see it while dining.

2) I use the drive thru rather than go in the bank.

3) I have NEVER left the car outside over night. I stays in the garage. Period...

4) When I go to the grocery store store, I park as close to the front door as possible. This way, if anything happens, Everyone will notice the Classic Red Datsun being messed with. It sorta begs to be watched, by everyone.

Paranoid, NO, Cautious, Yes. Concerned about something I've put years of blood sweat and tears into, YES. If my wife had 4 wheels and a steering wheel, I'd still be the same way. It's perfectly natural to worry about the things you love.

Dave.

I am paranoid too ;)

As much as I can I don't leave the car alone.

But bad things can happen, you need to be prepared and remember it is just steel (as nice as it could be)

I've got my Z keyed last year when I first pulled it out from winter storage; from the head light to the gas trap, deep enough I could see bare metal. Paint on my 72 is 3 years old, it is spotless.

I was having a dinner in a restaurant with the Z parked almost in front of it. It is going so fast, you cannot react to those kind of issues... :(

After a claim to the insurance and a 1500$ spent by the insurance (100$ deductible) in a body shop the car looks amazing again ;)

...and don't get me wrong, the a** who did that would have been in a hospital if I would have caught him doing it!

I avoid parking on the downhill side of those pens where you would put your emptied shopping cart-I've seen them roll away in the wind and plow right into cars hard enough to dent them.

Whenever possible, I do park at the end of a lot-near or far to the entrance isn't an issue, I just want to know that only one person can park next to me, and I get as close to the curb as possible, in case my neighbor has a large truck.

Personally I am more concerned about smash-n-grabs than anything else; our cars have plenty of glass, and not much space to put valuables where they will be away from wandering eyes and mischievous hands.

Well guys,,last night i had a dream its about my neighbor "he drives a Honda civic, In reality" I dreamed that he bought a nice blue 72 240z with a big block V8 engine "the end of my last night dream" :ermm:

and so many zillion dreams about owning a 240z in last two years.

Guys did experience the same dreams, like i do?:nervous:

well, in my home country they used to steal my 240z's emblems, center caps and any removable parts even the rims :stupid:. I wondering what you guys could do if you were in my situation

My dad bought himself a Honda S2000 as a retirement toy and when it was only a few years old, he was in a strip mall during a terrible thunderstorm. The lot was sloped from the road down to the stores and he was in a spot near the front waiting for the rain to let up. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw an empty shopping cart rolling down the hill and picking up speed. Before he could do anything about it, the cart slammed into his car and put a nasty wrinkle in the rear quarter right at the wheel arch.

After that I now always park as far uphill as I can get so a runaway cart can't attack my Z. Uphill might be closer to the front of the store or out by the road. If the store is the high point, I park far left or right to avoid the idiots who have no problem swinging their doors open and into the surrounding cars.
