In may 2007, I bought this 1973 Datsun 240z from a guy who had imported it from California.

The floors, the rear hatch lid threshold plate and dog legs where rotten, the interior and paint where burned by the sun and all the rubber where old and hard. The dash was cracked (of course) and the AC did not work. Otherwise everything else seemed okay.

Basically what had to be done was.

1. Remove and replace the rotten metal with new.

2. New (used) dash or dash cap.

3. New rubber and weatherstrip.

4. New suspension bushing.

5. New interior.

6. Repaint.

7. Engine service.

8. Change external lights to fit Danish law.

The restoration is now almost complete and here is some before pictures.

And some after pictures. The seats still needs some attention, and some minor projects such as wheels, sidestripes and stereo upgrade awaits in the future.

I just handed in my master thesis and awaits a date for the oral presentation which have top priority right now, but I expect to have the car finished and on the street by the start of March.

In order to make it legal in Denmark I had to retrofit some white parking lights facing forward – the side marker lights needed to be converted to turn signals (the rear ones need amber “glass”) and I had to install euro style tail lights. Because the car is more than 35 years old there is no emission requirements – so that’s easy!

The VIN number is HLS30 136321 – production date December 1972.

Not many of these cars around in Denmark – I personally have never seen one “live” (other than my own). Sure we have to meet up – as stated above I will have it on the streets by the start of March. What about your car – did it needed some work or is you already driving it around?

Here is a picture of my parents garage – in the foreground is my fathers Jaguar MK2 project and in the background is my Morris minor that I use every day.

It's easy to turn your sidemarkers into blinkers.

Connect a wire to the Blinker wire from the front markers (green/red (L) & green/black ®

Disconnect the black ground wire on your sidemarkers and connect the black wire from the sidemarker to the Turn signal wire noted above.

The sides will blink in tandom when the parking lights are OFF and they will blink in a "Flip-Flop" when the Parking lights are ON. Just MAKE SURE the sidemarkers are isolated from the body, by using the rubber seal. Use an ohms meter to make sure the screws are not touching the metal of the sidemarker as well.

Leave the ground coming from the engine harness hanging, it's no longer needed. It's this easy.

The last one i saw except of the one i have now is the one i had 20+ years ago, it was also a -73 with red interior and was re painted red on the outside same rims as yours btw., it had tripples, headder and a hotter cam, a blast to drive on the streets in Copenhagen, i had to sell that car back then, i was a broke youngster and couldn't afford to keep it, but it was fun and i have missed it ever since and thats why i had to have one again, wonder where it is.

My car needs a littel work, it is rust free, but the PO burnt a piston due to driving to lean, i have had the block hot tanked, bored, surfaced, the crank and rods is re surfaced and i'm currently waiting for the pistons, bearings ect. to arrive, it is the matching block with 3 screw round tops, N36 intake, C cam and headder, 2.25 inch exhaust, a littel improvement over stock and a 5 speed tranny, i also need to get the hood re sprayed, since the paint is burned in the area just above the carbs, as soon as i got the pistons i will have the motor build, car painted and tagged, so we might end up getting them on the streets at the same time.

At my shop i have a F54 block, and spare E88 and a E30 head's, some triple Dellorto's misc cam's to have re ground ect. so when the time comes i will have a hotter motor build for it.

The euro tail lights is secured, where did you get your's, they are not that easy to get hold on, i also got a KM/H speedometer and a ralley clock, i guess that i was i bit lucky on that one.

The CO2 must be below 7% to get it approved, but that shouldnt be that hard
