I forgot my password 2 years ago and have not been able to post anything to the club.I tried for a long time to log on but one of my motto's is " You have to be smarter than what you are working with " I guess that applies to computers to.I took one last WAG at it tonight and got it right.I have had a lot of questions and replies to messages I was unable to do so, if I offended anyone I am terribly sorry.While I was out of touch with the club experts I have had many questions or need of advice that I really miss.I hope after such a long absence I will be welcomed back in the fold. I haven't logged in for some time myself and thought I was suffering from the same issue this evening, however it was just fat finger syndrome. I managed to mistype my password repeatedly and got locked out for a while. Anyway, I'm back and look forward to catching up on things around here.

Thanks Mike but I tried plenty of times to use that link but it never worked for me. The main reason I stayed off long enough to forget my password was because my wife and I stayed at our lake house for a while with only dial up. That is so slow you could completely rebuild a car waiting to download anything.I stayed off the computer for a long time and while I was looking for a project I bought a 64 Chevy c-10 shortbed stepside to redo.I should be painting it next week and will show some pictures. I know it is not a Z but I think it is a classic.I am glad to be back and I will get dsl when I go back to the lake. Ronnie

Maybe this will help you out some...just a little trick I learned a long time ago...being a IT tech type I've got quite a few sites I log into and after a while you forget all the various passwords/Login IDs...just make one up for the various sites you go to and as you change passwords/Login ID stuff print you out a hard copy and put it in a cheap folder and you'll have it real handy when you need it...

Hey Joseph,

I hope you and the rest of the guys out there take steps to secure any soft or hard copies of sensitive info like account numbers and credentials. While this is probably not a big deal for forum credentials and the like, keeping hard copies around would be a bad idea for financial sites and other sensitive info unless the hard copies could be secured in lockable storage, preferably a safe. I've been in IT and network security for some time and I'm constantly amazed at the level of both logical and physical security (or lack thereof) that even the most IT saavy people allow to exist both at work and at home.

To keep this sort of info handy and secure on your computer, I strongly recommend use of a password manager which uses encryption to secure your data. I use a program called SplashID which uses strong encryption (256 bit Blowfish) to prevent unwanted access. There are lots of debates on which encryption is better or best but any encryption is better than none. I use both local backups and offsite backups to ensure that no data is ever lost and so far this has served me well.

Also important is a non-guessable, reasonably complex password that you can remember. And no, the name of one of your relatives, pets, or known nicknames are not good choices. Neither is your street name, your license plate, phone number, or any words that can be seen from where you sit at your desk.

There's a lot of choices out there when it comes to electronic password managers, but SplashID was the best choice for me because I can syncronize the desktop client with the PDA client and always have the most up to date info with me when working in the field. I'm not sure but the sync feature may only be available with the SpalshID for Windows Desktop client. Check it out at http://www.splashdata.com.

Good point on the data security. I see some interesting stuff as well ...my intention was mainly to give him a starting point so he could save his Login/Password for the Zcar forum...so he would not have a repeat of locking himself out of the Z website and forums....
