Posted February 15, 200916 yr comment_274390 Hi Gang:I'm going to have to buy an Enclosed Carhauler..... I really hate too... as I only need it once or twice a year... Nonetheless, anyone know of an 8.5x18 or 8.5x20 footer that is for sale very slightly used - and somewhere close to Florida? Looking to spend around $4K... as new one's are really inexpensive now...FWIW,Carl B. February 15, 200916 yr comment_274395 Me too Carl... I have an open trailer and I do use it quite often but an enclosed trailer would be ideal. I have looked on the PCA and Porsche sites and they tend towards 4K and up to 12K... I knew of one here a year ago at 4K but it slipped through my hands. February 16, 200916 yr comment_274435 When I was looking for one I found that it is hard to find them used, and if you do find one, they are almost as much as a new one. I am pretty sure the one I bought 4 years ago is still worth what I paid for it... February 16, 200916 yr Author comment_274436 I'd love to rent one when needed... but...Can't find a place around the Tampa Bay area that rents enclosed car trailers. Maybe it's a business I should start. Of course the legal liability might be a problem. So I'd have to go around and steal several, then set the business up under an assumed name... maybe combine it with an escort service.. Making money ....instead of, umm, well , you know.... well...If you find 2 let me know. I know I will need one. Lets see I have a utility trailer, a very large open trailer and an enclosed motorcycle trailer. I know I will need another acre to store stuff on. Maybe I can just trade all of these in on something.I should have just kept my older BIG enclosed trailer. Every time I get rid of something I am not using then I need it again. February 16, 200916 yr comment_274482 There are very many manufacturers located in Georgia. They allow factory pick-up and for those of you in Florida, that might make sense. I am also looking. Do a Google search for "trailers for Less" and it will lead you to several places. February 16, 200916 yr comment_274490 Try the NASA classifieds: http://nasa.racingjunk.com/They usually have a wide variety of trailers for sale. A buddy of mine bought a used 20 footer last year for about $4,500.Marty Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30839-i-need-an-enclosed-carhauler-18-to-20-feet/#findComment-274490 Share on other sites
February 16, 200916 yr comment_274491 Carl,I just saw one for sale on ebay. Its in Georgia so it might be within driving distance and I think it was $3750. The auction number was 230322119182. I don't know if this helps or not. Good luck. February 16, 200916 yr Author comment_274492 Hi Guys:Thanks ....So far, in the lower cost trailers they all seem pretty standard..16" on center floor and wall supportstwo 3500 lbs leaf spring, easy-lub axles with electric brakes and 15" tiresI beam platform construction or boxed channel3/4" plywood floors, 5/8's plywood sidewalls, landu ceilingRear Ramp door with spring balance36 or 48" side doorroof ventDC lightstandard electrical plug for tow vehicle hookupstandard front screw jack on the front hitchstandard lightsfront stone guard - some have front edge guards (aluminum)Some have an extra 16 "flip extension" on the ramp doorSome have 4 5000 lb tie downs in the floorsOf the above types - the lowest price "advertised" is $4095.00 with a $200.00 fee for delivery to Tampa Florida. When you start getting into things like:Aluminum floor and ramp door15" radial tires with mag wheelsFull vinyl linings (all white and pretty inside)Additional tie downs on the side wallsriveted seams rather than screwedtorsen axles rather than leaf springsthe prices start to push way up over $6,500.00+...Major Brand names like Pace and Hallmark seem to be trying to hold their premium prices... but some dealers indicate that they are ready to DEAL...As I said - I'll only be carrying about 2500 lbs.. and very rarely... so I am looking for something that I can buy right - so I can easily resell it later - and that means pricing it down even more to move it fast.keep an eye out...thanks,Carl Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30839-i-need-an-enclosed-carhauler-18-to-20-feet/#findComment-274492 Share on other sites
