Posted February 16, 200916 yr comment_274398 Ok here is the deal i recently upgraded the alternator...I bought the MSA upgrade kit and all was fine for a while maybe 2 weeks or so...when i went to check the oil and coolant o noticed my battery was wet...when i gave it a better glance i noticed it was acid....so i got the volt meter out and checked the batt it was right around 12.9 volts...then i started her up to see what it was charging like...i was like wow it is at 15-16 volts at idle... what do you guys think? is it the VR in the ALT? I mean this thing is brand new... February 16, 200916 yr comment_274399 Take it to a local shop and have them do a Bench test on it. If you bought it from MSA, they typically honor the warrenty. You can also ask them about a full refund on the Alternator if it's bad and buy one locally. And send them back their alt.Sounds like the Internal VR is bad. It happens. Not their fault, but it just happens.Delute the acid with a mix of water and baking soda. It will nuetralize the acid better than just water.Dave. February 16, 200916 yr comment_274403 it was an Optima that was leaking acid? That doesn't sound good. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/30840-help-new-zx-alternator-overcharging/#findComment-274403 Share on other sites

I understand your being upset and totally agree. But keep in mind that some Alternators are BAD, right out of the box. It happens.Dave.
