Black Dragon Automotive

I was looking through the black dragon automotive catalog for parts for my 240z yesterday and I was impressed with low prices on certain parts. I called them today to ask if the parts I found are aftermarket or original Nissan parts and they told me that almost all of their parts are aftermarket. Has anyone bought 240z parts from them? Are they different from original parts? I was planning on buying outer door handles, the lower window molding, an ignition swtich etc., but I don't like the idea of buying aftermarket parts.

If by lower window molding you mean the trim piece that has a squeegee that goes against the side windows I'd have to say that the black dragon aftermarket piece is junk. I bought theirs because the rubber squeegee on mine was dry rotted. While the chrome finish was very shiny the metal was much thinner than the original and was basically straight compared to the original with is shaped to fit the door. I ended up removing the rubber and attaching it to my original trim and throwing the remaining part out.

I also got door handles from them which seem to be much closer to the originals. I can't comment on their ignition switch.

So many original parts are NLA that you'd best assume most pieces bought anywhere are aftermarket unless it specifically states otherwise.

While it's true that Nissan still supplies many parts it is much more difficult to locate part numbers and have the dealership check whether they're still good or not, than thumbing through BD's catalog (or MSA) and ordering a part.

IM71Z-

I have one lower window molding (original Nissan part) left over from my last project. If you are interested let me know and I can see what side it belongs to and we can figure out a price(PM me). The black protective tape that protects the stainless steel has never been remove and the part has never been installed. Somehow I got two of one side from somebody and can not locate my invoice so I can send it back..............let me know

Part numbers aren't at all difficult to locate. That's what the microfiche CD and the Nissan Fast program are for. Finding a dealer that will actually search them is the trick.

Stephen:

I have the club's parts CD, which is inadequate in several areas, but I was until now unaware of Nissan FAST. I just read a bit about it in nIssanfourms.com (http://www.nissanforums.com/general-discussion/92323-nissan-fast-software.html) and am uncertain if installing it is worth my while.

Can Nissan FAST be a useful parts locating tool for us S30 lovers?

Yes it can. Not only for S30s but for most other Datsuns/Nissans from 64-02. It's rather tricky to install but I find it easier to use than the parts CD and you don't have to deal with bad pages like page 55-4 on the CD. It's easier to downlod from the Xenon site. http://www.xenons30.com/reference.html
