I have been doing some searching but not finding anything specific to my current situation.

I'm replacing the L2.4 engine in the '72 240 I bought last summer from my friend. He had installed a 4 barrel carb intake with a carb that was too large (600CFM) and it got stuck open and over reved the engine causing major internal damage.

So... I picked up a '75 280z engine with the fuel injection intake on it. I want to pull of the FI and install SU carbs (after reading opinions here on the site).

I now have 3 different pairs of SU carbs and intakes (don't ask). They all seem to have different intake headers and spacing and I'm sure they all will need a little TLC so I intend to get a rebuild kit from Z-Therapy but I only want to deal with rebuilding one set.

Can anyone tell me the best set of carbs out of the batch I have to rebuild and install on the 280z engine I have based on the pictures attached?

The intakes say E46, N33, N36 on them but as far as I can tell they are all "round top" style SUs.

I intend to strip off as much of the emissions stuff to simplify things since my car is CARB exempt and I live in CA so cold weather starts aren't too much of an issue.

Welding is for those in the KNOW, and I'm not on that list. I don't have aluminum welding experience and the local guy charges too much. The next set I do will be welded shut but I was in a hurry on this one.

And " Mr. Ding Ding" is a sexual reference that we won't go into on this thread. hehehe!!

mlc240Z... Thank you!! I could do better but I was in a hurry to get these on. Definately a BIG difference between the Triple Webers and the SU's. Instant power versus progressive power is really noticable. But at least it's not backfiring with every step on the pedal.

Your local guy is a arse, i didn't pay a nickel to get mine weld shut and it only takes a few minutes if he know what he is doing.

I must have a launguage problem here, i really don't get that "mr. Ding Ding" is it because it's hanging to much;)

Wow Dave, those carbs are looking awsome! Did you use anything to seal the polished aluminum to inhibit corrosion and extend the time between polishes? Same for the steel. I know there's a good product out there for the aluminum but I just can't recall the name of it at the moment.

Everyone is hurting around here and charging for everything. guess I need to learn how to do it myself. There's another grand out of my pocket, Damnit.

:bulb: ding ding ding, tell him what he's won. Like a pendulum on a grandfather clock. ROFL ROFL Guess it also depends on how hot it is outside too.

I typically use Crystal Clear Hi-temp clear coat. Especially on any steel parts that were polished, then I relube everything mechanical. Thanks for the compliments guys, makes it a little more worth all the work.
