Fix it or forget it?

I need the advice of an experienced Z car guy.

I just got into these cars and picked up this green z for cheap.

A little history about the car.

-rear quarter panels were replaced

-good moldings, no cracks in dash

-floorboards were replaced

Check out these photos and let me know what you guys think.

I am undecided whether I should restore this car or ditch it (sell it as is) and just look for a cleaner one. I have done lots of rust repair before but I am worried since the car has already had lots of rust repair I may run into a few suprises on the way. I plan on keeping a Z for a very long time.

This is the worst part of the car and the area needing most attention. the frame rails do appear to be solid.

any opinions highly appreciated.

Fix it, sell it, fix it then sell it? I just want to know how bad u guys really think it is.

Depends on how much you have paid for it. Hard to tell from the pictures, but the good parts might be worth more than the car. Bumpers, Tail Lights, Hood, Front fenders, read deck lid... Can't really tell from the pictures -

No way to fix it - at any reasonable cost in terms of dollars or time. I'd strip it for parts and crush it.

Like Carl said , it depends on how deep you are into the Z. Also how handy you are with a torch. If you have to have the work done by others . Part it out and save the good stuff and or sell the parts. Both frame rails need to be redone. It's a shame , looks like a good car from the outside.

Depends on how much you have paid for it.

Defferentially beg to differ...spent money is already gone, whether he spent $10 or $10,000 it is what it is....

The value of the vehicle isn't much. I do agree that the parts may be greater in value than the car itself. Also, if you plan to get another, a parts car in the background is good until you get the new one and running to your liking.

I spent 750 on the car.

Thanks forthe input so far.

I think I'm going to hold onto it for now until I source a cleaner car. I will then use any necessary parts and sell the rest.

I do all work myself but have had repaired rust buckets before and the feeling of owning one bugs me

I've parted two recently, and I easily see more than $750 worth in those pictures alone, plus who knows how much in the parts we haven't seen. But you've got the right idea - if you've got somewhere to keep it for a while, see what else you can find before you sell something you'll kick yourself for later.

I agree if you can not do the repairs yourself you will get into it way too deep. There are better 240's out there. I don't think I would to start on that one. As you said it is what can not be seen yet that bites you.

If I had not owned mine over thirty five years I would not of put the time into it. Turned out nice but there were those days when I wondered.

I can easily do the repairs myself and have already done similar work in the past. this is why I am skeptical. The work and time involved turns me off from the car. I just wanted to see what u guys thought. Looks like I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for a cleaner car.

Good things come to those who wait, right?

Btw there are a set of triple carbs I'm selling on eBay right now. Start bidding :)
