gnosez Posted November 18, 2010 Share #109 Posted November 18, 2010 I was at the Townsend road corner this September during the vintage race week (we were late coming down from The Glen on our way to the Seneca Lodge). My vids won't upload for some reason but they still run the old course each year with selected cars, including the winner of the first race in 1948, a pre-war Alfa. No Zs ran the old course but 2 were racing at the track and looked very good out there. I've attached a pic one of the 240s and two pics of the Repco Brabham BT30 I had the pleasure to move around in the pits and garage area. That car is over in Australia right now being prepped for the Tasman Revival. Sir Brabham will be attending.
DatsunDoc Posted November 19, 2010 Share #110 Posted November 19, 2010 Gnosez, That's my Z. Nice meeting you at the races. I've driven the old course a couple of times with the race car. It's a bit hard on the car because I have no fan, racing clutch/tranny etc. I needed to save my clutch for the weekend this year so I skipped it. This is a great vintage race event that the town embraces and I highly recommend it for drivers or spectators. Datsun is the featured marque for 2011 so put it on your calendars. There should be some special Datsun race cars showing up for the event. Mike

gnosez Posted December 1, 2010 Share #113 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) Does anyone know the history behind this particular 300ZX race car? UPDATE: Found history in SCCA archives. Ran well in qualifying, not so in the actual races itself (gearbox, engine, etc.). Only ran in 1988 and no mention in any races in '89. Interesting NA induction however. Car seems to be up for sale. vintagezracer Posted December 1, 2010 Share #114 Posted December 1, 2010 Is this the same car that is recently for sale from PLN's collection?
vintagezracer Posted December 1, 2010 Share #115 Posted December 1, 2010 I wanted to add a few of the pics from my collection and hopefully clear up a few of the statements and issues that were debated in this thread earlier... I own the HLS30-00008 car that has been a race car nearly all its life after being one of the three original factory show cars. A very early pic of the car... and a few more early pics.... I purchased the car in 1991 after it had recently run in the 1990 24 hours of Daytona (similar to previously posted pics but in very sad shape). In contrast to previously stated in this thread it was not cut up into a tube frame car and was still very much a tub based car... The restoration was extensive and the car was taken back to C-production specs as seen here.... And a finally a very proud moment for me and the car.... borkz6.bmp
coop Posted December 1, 2010 Share #116 Posted December 1, 2010 Were those older photos taken at Seattle International Raceway?
vintagezracer Posted December 1, 2010 Share #117 Posted December 1, 2010 Were those older photos taken at Seattle International Raceway? If you are talking about the 70's photos of the C production version of the car I beleive they were from Lime Rock and Watkins Glen but not 100% sure. They are copies of photos I received from the original owner's wife.
5thhorsemann Posted December 1, 2010 Share #118 Posted December 1, 2010 Vintageracer, Have you remaind in touch with the PO's (Racers Cafe crew), I have been trying to get in touch with one of the drivers of the car from the 1990 race, David Duda. We were "drinking buddies" back then, and I was trying to find out if he still was lugging around parts for the old Z's. I know he left Parkville years ago, but I've had no luck trying to contact him.

I did hear he moved out of the area and since that time haven't heard from him. I know he was friends with Mike Speakman, is he still around in the Balt. area? He might know the whereabouts of Dave....BTW, if you do find him let me know....have a few questions too!
