"The powerful Jaguar leads the dash for the first corner, a sweeping right turn leading uphill. The Datsuns are able to brake a bit later so it's a dead heat into the turn, Freddy surrounded by Z's"....."The Jaguar thunders down the pit straight, the leader after the first lap." In pole position, the XK-E won the race against all odds, even after being deliberately battered by Jim Fitzgeralds Datsun at the very beginning of the race! The Road Atlanta SCCA Road Racing National Championship win on 26th October 1980 ended 9 years of Datsun domination of the title! DatsunDoc Posted October 15, 2011 Share #170 Posted October 15, 2011 Not a vintage photograph, but a photo showing some of the great vintage Zs that showed up at the Glen in September can be seen here:http://www.thespeedclick.com/tsc-2011_datsun-nissan_group.shtml
conedodger Posted November 14, 2011 Author Share #171 Posted November 14, 2011 Here is a shot that hasn't seen the light of day in years. Bay area friend got his neighbor who was a race fan and amateur photographer in the '70s to scan this and put it on a disc for me... It's either the old Riverside or Laguna Seca. The Road Atlanta SCCA Road Racing National Championship win on 26th October 1980 ended 9 years of Datsun domination of the title! We talked about that here a few years ago:http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?34369-1980-C-Prod-Runoffs&highlight=jaguarA bit biased like most of the stuff out there, "against all odds" is a stretch. It was actually the '80 runoffs, but no biggie. An entertaining read nonetheless.I did find the entire race posted online but am having difficulty locating it at the moment. My favorite quote by the late Mr. Newman on his finish "second overall, first in class" Edited December 2, 2011 by preith

Carl Beck Posted December 4, 2011 Share #180 Posted December 4, 2011 Carl's car? Hi Rob: Yes - that was at the Lake Mirror Classic Concours - in Lakeland, Florida a couple months ago. It is a wonderful event, it was a perfect day and lots of really neat Classic / Collectible and Special Interest Cars there. There were about 125 Cars invited to the Concours Event which is held around Lake Mirror; and several hundred Classic/Collectible and Special Interest cars on display throughout the downtown area. Perhaps one of the best organized and operated events I've been to in recent years. Seems that everyone in town was involved and volunteering to help. Even the Police Department. Yes - looks like someone put the Display Sign on the car while I was out looking at the rest of the field - the signs kept blowing over... Someone else must have moved it back to the ground before I returned. FWIW, Carl B.
