The Datsuns are able to brake a bit later so it's a dead heat into the turn, Freddy surrounded by Z's"....."The Jaguar thunders down the pit straight, the leader after the first lap." In pole position, the XK-E won the race against all odds, even after being deliberately battered by Jim Fitzgeralds Datsun at the very beginning of the race! The Road Atlanta SCCA Road Racing National Championship win on 26th October 1980 ended 9 years of Datsun domination of the title! November 14, 201113 yr Author comment_371749 Here is a shot that hasn't seen the light of day in years. Bay area friend got his neighbor who was a race fan and amateur photographer in the '70s to scan this and put it on a disc for me... It's either the old Riverside or Laguna Seca. It was actually the '80 runoffs, but no biggie. An entertaining read nonetheless.I did find the entire race posted online but am having difficulty locating it at the moment. December 4, 201113 yr comment_373588 Carl's car? Hi Rob: Yes - that was at the Lake Mirror Classic Concours - in Lakeland, Florida a couple months ago. It is a wonderful event, it was a perfect day and lots of really neat Classic / Collectible and Special Interest Cars there. There were about 125 Cars invited to the Concours Event which is held around Lake Mirror; and several hundred Classic/Collectible and Special Interest cars on display throughout the downtown area. Perhaps one of the best organized and operated events I've been to in recent years. Seems that everyone in town was involved and volunteering to help. Even the Police Department. Yes - looks like someone put the Display Sign on the car while I was out looking at the rest of the field - the signs kept blowing over... Someone else must have moved it back to the ground before I returned. FWIW, Carl B.
