Its much the same with anything historical : most article writers just copy the 'facts' from other publications and sources and then write the article up to look somewhat original. I'm convinced that your average writer of 'historical' articles is a hack who cobbles stuff together with the main idea of satisfying an editor. Providing its reads OK then it is OK.
