Engine out through the top or bottom?

Well now the 260's nearly all apart, i need to remove the engine and gearbox before if push it on its side to remove the last little bits. Is it easier to lift the engine out through the top, or can i just lower it onto the ground with the car on stands and wheel it away? (Tried both ways in different cars, and going through the bottom was a heap easier and quicker and it didn't scare me as much) Can anyone see any reasons why it may not be possible?

I think it would be much easier to take the engine out the top. To get it out the bottom would require you to either have the chassis 3 feet off the ground and have some kind of engine stand on a jack to take it out the bottom, or raise the chassis high enough to clear the engine on the floor.

The motor is now out (ended up taking it through the top), using a $10 block and tackle tied to the tree in our back yard, no problems. Somewhat surprised by the strength of the tree, i attached a couple of seat belts and lifted the whole car onto its side and off the ground and removed everything else. Now comes my next problem, I have a whole heap of unwanted parts i need to sell:

Rear Light Assembly

2+2 doors

Complete set of locks

interior bits and pieces etc

the list goes on

I live in south Australia, so anyone nearby needing some bits, give me a yell or an email Thorci00@hotmail.com

Hey Z Kid

I'm after the following stuff:

* Good straight bonnet

* Tacho (don't care if it doesn't work but the clear plastic lens has to be good)

* The light in the centre of the dash

* interior light

* hazard light switch

I was horrified to read of you tipping a Z on its side but then I realised it was a 2 + 2 so that's OK LOL

I'm in Canberra but if the price and condition is right I'm happy to pay freight.
