What brand did you end up buying. [/quote']

Hi Mitchell

I bought a Freedom Trailer, several Dealers on the Net advertised them for $4098.00 and some were sold on E-Bay as well.

See: http://freedom-trailers.com/

I found a local Dealer {Champon in Tampa} to buy it from. They had one coming for stock and that saved me a month or so.

Most Freedom Dealers charge $4098.00 for the trailer - and it had all the normal features, plus a few nice additions others did not offer at that price. Freedom had a Tampa drop off site - so they would deliver the trailer to Tampa for a flat $200.00 delivery fee. {otherwise they charge something like $1.46 per mile from the factory to you}

So $4298.00 plus sales tax, title/tag, and a couple other fees brought it up to $4698.00. Then I added a weight distribution/anti-sway trailer hitch.. and that all come up to another $565.00.

The basic structure of the trailer is actually pretty good for the price. But you can tell it was built on a fast production schedule. Bottom line is that it is a medium price/medium quality trailer, that last year sold for $5,695.00 + + + So it turned out to be low price, medium quality trailer this year.

All in all it was a fairly good deal - and I shouldn't have much trouble selling it later. If I had time to wait a couple months - I would have gone for a 8.5' x 18'...but the 20' was available

I'd would rather have been able to purchase a much smaller, more compact enclosed trailer. But couldn't find anything like that for sale. If you have time, you can also shop for a fairly new, but used unit and save some money as well. Or perhaps find a higher quality trailer used - for about the same money.

FWIW,

Carl B.

Come on Carl,

This is a no brainer. You need a BRE trailer for your BRE car.....

Hi Ron:

If I were planning on hauling the car around more than just a couple times - I might have been willing to spend the additional $10K to $12K. No question the BRE Trailer is impressive.

Hi Bill:

Yes... I talked to Dr. Bill tonight. I'll just have to make sure I don't pull in anywhere that I can't also pull though.!! Even my son has a hard time backing this monster up... and he's pretty good at trailer backing..

Let the adventure begin... See you there Sunday.

Carl B.

Hey Jeff,

I see what you mean about wet tubular steel. Another thing I noticed was a lack of guides for the tyres. Seems like it would be easy to steer to one side if distracted.

I've had a fold up trailer for a couple of years now. Not a car trailer though.

Has bolt on sides, front and rear double as ramps, remove pins from the draw bar and it tilts. Comes with either steel or marine ply floor. Folds up to about two foot wide, sits quite nicely against the inside wall of my shed.

It comes in a variety of sizes and can be adapted to carry bikes or a boat.

Saves having a trailer taking up room and rusting away in the yard.

Rick.

:devious::devious:

TY Rick, I didnt think I would be alone on that one.

I also have had the fold up bike trailers in the past. I had good luck with mine for many years. But, at this point I needed a heavy trailer for hauling around full size cars and offroad trucks.

Carl, I hear you on the canvas and being able too cut into the trailer. But also think you could get around that with a net made of thin cable that could be stiched into the canvas cover. Then use the cables on a small hand winch for getting the canvas cover tight and holding it in place at speed.

The folding trailer is a good thought IMO. It's just that the painted tubes and open floor are what turn me away on that one. I also didnt see any points on that for tie downs or chains.

I took some very heavy weld in D rings and installed 2 in the front and two in the rear on my trailer. Now I have 4 very strong tie down points that can hold any load in place. It beats the hell outa running straps and chains over the edges and hooking on the trailer frame as with most. They are strong enough that a friend had lost it and hit the ditch with his offroad truck loaded on my trailer. Took a hard enough hit that it tore the frame on the hitch of his tow rig. The truck on the trailer NEVER moved. Just thought I would share whats worked for me.

I want something between the fold-up and the 8.5'x20' enclosed car hauler that I now have.

To carry a Z I want an "enclose'able" trailer that is about 16' long, by 7' wide, that has front opening access panels so you can tie the front of the car down from outside the trailer. Low ride height and low load angle with a fold down rear ramp door. I want it to be just a few inches taller on the interior than the Z... and I want it for about $3695.00.

How about this one Carl? http://www.montrosetrailers.com/gallery/automobile_trailers/MVC_014F

It was advertised in the latest Haggerty magazine I got yesterday. Not sure what the pricing is like.

I've seen a website for car trailers that had a vinyl tent-like cover. The trailers were targetting the Factory Five racing crowd. Unfortunately I can't find the url again to pass forward. It fit all of Carl's criteria except for the price (I remember in the $6k range). Point is - a strong, light, covered car hauler is out there... somewhere...
