As i do i find there is some minor bondo work. Know i don't have allot of experience with that. I am changing the color from white to blue. I'm wondering if i just give it a good sanding to take off the clear coating. racebird1 Posted March 11, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 11, 2009 As long as what is under there is solid and it hasn't been repainted several times you should be able to give a sand to get it cleaned up. You are changing the color so with some body filler showing you will need a coat of primer to get it all the same color before you paint. It really pays to use prep solvent to get any wax off before you sand. You don't want to leaving it on the paint because depending on how much you sand it won't all be gone. Any bare metal should be primed with a self etching primer or etch the metal or it will peel in a few months. Before spraying make sure to sand it down to at least 320 grit or you will see sanding marks. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

five&dime Posted March 12, 2009 Share #8 Posted March 12, 2009 if the car has been painted several times and you aren't taking it to metal you should probably spray it with a sealer/primer. That will create a barrier b/t the two compounds and create a fresh surface to shoot. If not you run the risk of lifting or crinkling the new finish. Which is a nightmare to deal with.
