oskidunker1 Posted March 18, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2009 Looks nice.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1972-Datsun-240Z-ORIGINAL_W0QQitemZ200320860866QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item200320860866&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A317%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
Tarmac Posted March 18, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2009 Im guessing that the real mileage is 136,000.Other then that it looks good! The question is how much will it go for? $3,550 and reserve not met.
Sailor Bob Posted March 18, 2009 Share #3 Posted March 18, 2009 The front bumper is damaged and it looks like it was painted (around the driverside door looks to be some overspray on the door seal). Not all that glitters is gold. Reserve is too high (currently over 4500). BTW - Some of Nevada gets alot of snow - I recently bouight a car from the Reno area. Unkle Posted March 18, 2009 Share #4 Posted March 18, 2009 That pic from the back underneath looks like it's been in a fire ! What's with all the black sooty stuff on most everything ? It can't look that bad just from a rich carb mixture .
xcyter Posted March 18, 2009 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2009 Damage and fires? I love watching everyone pick apart these 40 yr old cars. LOLROFL I saw dirt on the window, looks like a tornado maybe?
Arne Posted March 18, 2009 Share #6 Posted March 18, 2009 This is at least the 4th or 5th time I have seen that car on eBay recently. I seem to recall seeing a pretty ridiculous Buy-It-Now price on it at least once, so I suspect the seller has the reserve set pretty high.Pick it apart all you want, people. But the pictures still appear to show a remarkably solid car. I think it would be a good car if the price weren't too nutso. I'd want to inspect it in person, of course, but if it checks out as non-rusty it's worth a fair amount.
Sailor Bob Posted March 18, 2009 Share #7 Posted March 18, 2009 (edited) bOpinions were requested, so I am not sure why the desention regarding remarks to point out something that a potential buyer (fellow member) may not have noticed. My remark about snow simply implies that rust, although not noticable in pictures, may still be present - esp considering the hints of a paintjob. A new bumper for a 72 is not cheap. Lastly - I have seen people ask rediculous amounts for cars in poor condition. Price certainly does not indicate quality. This car looks very nice (my favorite colour) but as stated it is near 40 years old and has had lots of time to rot or be abused. Not saying "it is in poor condition", but it could be. Pictures don't tell you much other than what the vendor wishes you to see. Hope someone sees it up close and gives us some feedback. After all we recently saw a car sold to a member through ebay that looked very nice in the pics and turned out to be quite different upon a closer inspection. Zak's Z Posted March 18, 2009 Share #8 Posted March 18, 2009 My opinion is this looks like a clean car and would be a great starting point to do a refresh or restore, and as is a good car to drive regularly.
Oiluj Posted March 19, 2009 Share #9 Posted March 19, 2009 Looks pretty good from the pics, with exception of the poorly fitted after-market driver's seat cover. Problem is pics don't show the defects well. However, if it's really rust free, looks to me like a solid car to drive or refresh. You are close enough that it's only a 4-5 hour drive or a 1-1/2 hour flight. If it were me, I'd go take a look at it this weekend.
carguyinok Posted March 19, 2009 Share #10 Posted March 19, 2009 (edited) I say that it looks very nice from the photos. For myself I would ask for better shots of the body. It looks clean in the distance shots they took. But for me it just dosnt feel correct from the way the photos are. They get nice and close for the front and rear shots. Then ran away from it for any side shots taken. Then they take the time for removing the seats. Yet could only pull the rear carpet back alittle and cut off anything showing the hatch seals and corners. Maybe I am wrong!!! But it just seems alittle funny too me. But it dose look nice from about 15-20 feet away. Edited March 19, 2009 by carguyinok
DatsunZsRule Posted March 19, 2009 Share #11 Posted March 19, 2009 BTW - Some of Nevada gets alot of snow - I recently bouight a car from the Reno area. After seeing that photo of the underside, I can tell you guys that it has seen salt. I know from living in MN. not only I see rust but I can also see a white residue in certain spots from road salt  Not trying to bash the car but buyer beware of rust. Nev and Cal do not use salt. They use cinder.
