Last August California assemblyman Dave Jones put forth a bill that sought to apply the state’s strict emissions inspections to cars 15 years or older. The bill was defeated, but now Jones is at it again. This time funds from the inspections would be put into a fund that encourages the scrapping of older cars.We [...]

So what exactly does this mean? That you all that own a 240z or 260z would have to smog it? Does it change anything for the people that already have to smog their car, other than making it an annual thing instead of every other year? Either way, I don't think it will pass, but then again, a good deal of hippies are in a tree hugging mood lately.

A rather crude synopsis is that all '76 or newer vehicles up to a floating 15 year old vehicle will have to smog annually. They now smog biannually. The funds generated by this would go to a fund to take older vehicles off the road. They now nominally pay you to junk your car if it fails smog and you are unable to referee it through.

Going to a referee simply means that you go to them and say I cannot pass smog because and they decide if you can keep driving it on public highways. Example might be you absolutely cannot get a stock part but the car still passes all but the visual.

If you live in California please get the word out on this...contact your representitive and let him or her know that the money grab has to end, and to leave the classic cars alone. Please share with your car clubs and ask the president of your club to write a letter for your club as well. SEMA is working hard to help too contact Stevem@Sema.com

It's not just Cali. I lived in Vegas for a few and found most of the west coast was that way. Heck I had ta have two complete exhaust systems for my Corvette in Vegas. One would go on long enough for the inspection. Then back with the real system once she passed. It was a true headache that I am glad that I am free of now.
