Hi Donna

Congratulations on your buy, It looks nice. I think you are on the right track - a good cleaning will get you familiar with you new Z. By the time you finish with the toothbrush you will know what has to come next. Try ZHome.com for pointers.

Good Luck

It looks like ZHome contacted you :)

For this 240Z Sweetheart, I would love to refresh her and that link helped a lot!

Thank you

Thank you, Is it bad to take the day off to play with a Z to clean her up?
I did that a few times before I retired. Now I've got all day to play with my Datsuns, computers, keyboards, saxophones, etc., but I still spend more time with the Datsuns.

Second Step Is Preservation:

-Get the car up on a lift - and inspect the undercarriage. STOP any surface rust NOW.

Plan your work and work your plan..

Good luck,

Carl B.

I just did, as you said to do... Looks to be okay with her frame rails. Looks like she needs some removal and cleaning up of some parts. What would you recommend to keep the rust from stopping on her? Like I said, I am all ears open....

Thank you for your advice. I would love to bring her back up to specs and to stop any rust on her.

I'll be taking a full week or two off to spend with the Z here shortly. Mostly because I have 240 hours of PTO and I'm not accumulating any more at this point. Due to the economy my company has throttled the max PTO back to 120 hours, so until I get below that, I definitely won't be earning any more........

Let the Z work begin!!!!!

Hi Donna,

Your new purchase is a 1971 Series I 240Z if manufactured in Dec, 1970.

It just happens to be a brother or sister of my 240Z which was born in the same month.

Your Z was born 118 s/n's before my car which was delivered to Florida in Jan, 1971.

My Z had the original paint until this past spring when I got tired of looking at door dings, road chips, etc. Mileage is 175,000 and it still runs strong with original engine which has never been rebuilt.

Good luck on your new toy! It is a classic so take it out on the road and enjoy it.

Donna,

Welcome. One thing I have found handy is to keep a Auto Diary with all edits and changes made to the car. For each date I do something I log it and keep a rolling total of my cash outlay (sometimes I'd rather not look) but at least I know where I am verses the value of the car currently. Next to each date log the mileage so in a few years you know the exact date and mileage a particular service or replacment was completed.

Best of luck with your upcoming passion, the one we all share..........Z's!!
