I did a quick search and found this thread that I remembered reading. It may be helpful. A quick fix until you find a better replacement.

You're awesome! Thank you!

I did search to find out how to restore the steering wheel. Looks like I will be having fun for the next several of days. :)

Cracks in the inner plastic retainer can be fixed {glued}... but if you are missing pieces of it, you are better off getting one in better shape to begin with.

FWIW,

Carl B.

Sad to say, It is missing some of the plastic ring around it. I will keep an eye out for a better replacement, and you guys are great for making some parts... do for now... until it can be fixed correctly.

Probably not original for the 70' year but it might work in the interim if it's the same size.

I'm sorry, but that horn is from a '77-'78 280Z. I don't think it will fit on the 240Z's steering wheel.

I to correct myself.

I have been having the same problem. My horn button would pop off when I hit a bump or under hard acceleration. Looked at the fix in the post from Geezer, and went out to the garage to see if it would work. My horn button was fine. However, the nylon ring on the steering wheel, with the 3 metal plates that hold the button on, was not 100%. Part of the ring behind (dashbd. side) one of those plates was missing. I checked a spare wheel I had in the attic, and the nylon ring was intact. Pushed the horn button on it and had a hell of a time getting it off! Looks like I'll have to look over the posts about restoring the steering wheel, as this wheel is not as nice as the one in the car.
