March 23, 200915 yr comment_278594 Carl, The only reason an MG would need frequent parts replacement is when it is owned by a "tinkerer" - that is someone who feels the need to constantly fiddle with, and replace, parts (i.e. they like to work on their cars more than they like to drive them). Since many of these types own MG's for the reason that they are simple to work on, and have a wide assortment of parts available - MG's get a bad reputation. A well sorted MG will run just as trouble free as a well sorted Z will On topic, I have spent significantly more on Z parts than I have on my MGB in the past 5 years, no contest at all... March 24, 200915 yr Author comment_278645 Right on the money, DougN. My B is reliable, with the exception of a Pertronix ignition, and I drive it like I stole it..... March 24, 200915 yr comment_278650 After I finished restoring it, I drove my B daily for 4 years, regardless of weather. (Well, not in the infrequent snow, but every other day.) No failures, no special maintenance, nothing broke. I changed a few filters and fluids, replaced plugs and points, lubed it now and then, and kept the valves adjusted. Nothing special. It was stone reliable while I had it, and the lady I sold it to had similar experience until she sold it. Last I heard, it was sold to a guy in Atlanta, or thereabouts. March 24, 200915 yr comment_278706 I couldnt agree more. I drove my Midget from Seatle to St. Louis on multiple occassions and had years of good service from it. Not that I am saying in any way the it is a better car in some kind of Ford vs. Chevy discussion, it was a dependable car when restored, in its way so was my Opel and the 65 6 cylinder Mustang. It was easier to restore the MG and cheaper due to parts availability even here in the middle of the country where these cars are not extremely popular. Arne that is really nice work, you should be proud of the cars long life! March 24, 200915 yr comment_278708 Arne, you want to restore a B for me?? Nope. Been there, done that. Moved from the MG to a graymarket BMW, and later to the Z. Never go backwards, always do something new.Arne that is really nice work, you should be proud of the cars long life!Yeah, it was a great little car. Still is, I suspect. But can't imagine that I'll ever see it again, not 3000 miles from here.
