Dashpot for MT swap

Do I need a dashpot for my 76 z if I swap from auto trans to manual? Or can I rig a spring on the throttle?

From what I've read, the dashpot does something with the throttle release,etc...

Nissan refers to that as the anti-stall dashpot. The way it effects the throttle is by dampening the last 1/2" or so of throttle when you quickly release the gas pedal in neutral. That basically keeps the throttle chamber from 'slamming shut'. That's the theory anyway. I've seen many auto-manual conversions without them that seem to work without a problem.

If you want a dashpot complete with the bracket etc., I think I have one. I kept quite a few small parts from a couple of parts cars I once had. Does your throttle chamber have the two bolt holes for it? I'm pretty sure it would since they used those until they changed to the E12-93 dizzy on the ZXs. In that case it would be an easy bolt on. Let me know and I'll look through my stuff.

I'm replacing the auto transmission with a 5 speed in my 75 280Z, do I need to change the ECU and is there any other changes? I'm actually swapping out the motor & transmission from a 76 280 into my 75.
