Im at work and everything looks status-quo. Not much more spam in my inbox. Now is a good time to do the Windows and Virus program updates if you havn't already. If you get errors or cant update either, where you usually can, then look into it more and run a few more tools.

When will you all break down, and buy a Mac? :D No viruses, they never break down, and they now run all of the Microsoft software.

I have no anti-virus on my Mac, and I've never had a problem. And no, I don't work for Apple. I just don't understand why people still use PC's, except that they are cheaper to buy then Macs. But once you factor in all of the down time, repairs, anti-virus software, etc., that you need to keep Windows-based machines running, is a PC really cheaper? :stupid:

I paid $1,200 for a 20" iMac, and not a penny on it since. And the Confliker wasn't written for Mac's, so I have no worries about today. Just my .02.

This is really going to annoy you then... Im using my beautiful new MacBook Pro to type this but I'm running WINDOWS. Ya, I said it - Windows on my Mac. I set bootcamp to completely bypass my Mac install.

I have a few computers at work including a big mac tower but I almost always use my PC's.

Macs best advantage here is their placement of the OS in protected firmware.

But then, Microsofts chosen path ensures more Microsoft, I.T., and aftermarket envolvement on most PC sales-meaning more jobs(expenditures) from every machine/install.

The Apple/Mac is(and has been) clearly a superior product, but the Microsoft Machine is clearly the superior Marketing strategy. It follows the old adge if you help others help you to become, and enable them to become richer for doing it, they will.

Just goes to show you that having the best product doesen't mean you will sell the most...just like Betamax and VHS...

actually the mind set of hackers are to target what can cause the most damage. people thing macs are superior but try not doing any updates on the new macs and they start acting up. might not be as bad as pc but they will start acting up. you can make worms and viruses for mac os, but hackers have nothing to gain from infecting macs. when you rob a bank you dont go for the coins you go for the bills. the guy that hacked the iphone used a worm to do it. i say if mac started to hit high numbers like pc mac would be pushing updates daily instead of monthly.

Mostly true. In my professional opinion, the recent Mac OS's are a bit more secure than Windows. They are also more difficult to write malware for. It's not impossible, and Macs aren't invulnerable, but it does take a bit more effort. And your typical malware hack doesn't want to invest the time it would take to craft something that would only affect a small percentage of the installed base. As simple as that.

That said, while I hold valid support certifications on all three major platforms (Apple, Microsoft and Redhat Linux), I use Macs by choice. They are simply easier to maintain for home use.

I use an iPhone, and have many tools to forensically extract data from logical and unallocated space on them, but thats as far as I go with Macs. The majority of filesystems I see are NTFS (Windows XP/Vista) so I use Windows mostly.

I know PC's take a bit more knowledge to keep running well, but you have to admit it was only until recently when a Mac was good for design work and surfing the 'net (let the flaming begin!!). Most good software is designed on the most popular platform which is Windows. The only way a mac user can say they can run most software is if they do it on Windows emulation, and the most exciting offering for a Mac recently (Microsoft Office) is from a PC company.

Thankfully apple still has the iTunes store. At least people love their ipods. ;)

I'm running Mac OS 10.3 that come with it in 2006...never updated...never had a problem.

And I use Macs at my office (I'm an engineer), VectorWorks (the Mac version of MiniCad) is an excellent drafting program. I also run Microsoft Word on my Mac OS. 5 years ago, there were software availability problems, but not anymore.

Don't ask why I defend the Macs so much, I just love em.

Paul I have to admit this MacBook is a work of art. I really love it. Its designed beautifully. I only defend Windows because Im harassed by the Linux and Mac guys all the time. I recently took apart a MacBook AIR to remove the hard drive and I was amazed. That thing is the most precisely packed case I've ever seen. The layout inside was beautiful but I'd still put Windows on it!

I've not nearly had the same track record as you. My gf's macbook has been back to apple 4 times in 3 years for repair. Thank god she bought 3 year applecare.

That said, I've used both macs and pc's throughout my life and can see the advantages and disadvantages of each.

But if everyone switched to a mac it would become a target for malware and everything else. It's simply that mac market share is small enough now that it doesn't make sense to program bad stuff for it when there's soo many more pc's out there.
