Yes, the blocks are basically the same where it counts. Note that the early heads/manifolds have a square exhaust ports. At some point in late 79 to early 80, they switched to the P79 head which has round exhaust ports so you'll need to use the exhaust manifold that came with the 83 motor, or swap heads if possible. Before doing so, check the calculator here to see what your compression ratio will be so you can determine if this is somtehing that you should/can/want to do. Simply bolting an N42 or N47 head on a flat top piston engine like that of the F54 block will result in roughly 10.x to 1 compression ratio which is a little too high for typical pump gas, although it would put out some kick arse power with the right fuel. :)
