NEED HELP with my fuel system 260Z

hey folks i need a little help, and I have done research here and have only found some partial remidies,.......I replaced the fuel pump on my 260Z (Its new to me) and itsmechanical) and have purchased the electrical fuel pump to r/r the oem as well,

now, i have 2 things going on,

1.i have NO power to the electric is there a fuel pump relay and if so where the heck is it??? ......... any way the fuel pump mounted on the fuel cell and i do not have the book to find if i have a relay or not.

2. when i pulled the fuel line to the mechanical from the gas tank i cant get ANY FUEL COME out of the fuel tank. its like its COMPLETELY CLOGGED and its got a bout 6-7 gals in it.

is this a common problem with older Z'S?

First things first. Before you hook up the fiel pump to the tank, you need to clean out your tank or it will destroy the elec fuel pump. Clogged tanks are common for tihs and any oder car. Rust accumulates in the tank and clogs the pickup tube and anything else between there and the carb. If your tank is that badly clogged, you need to drain and clean it out an a minimum, and optimally, get it boiled out at a radiator shop. If the rust is really bad, it may need repairs. Regarding the wiring, cars that did not come with an elec pump are generally wired for them anyway. I'm guessing that you already found the wires by the sending unit. If I recall correctly, the other end can be found under the dash somewhere and just need to be hooked up to a power source. Look here for more info. I found this by searching for the words "electric fuel pump wiring". The search feature is your friend. :)

outstanding thank you, im glad i only put 5 gal in the tank yesterday itll be easier to drain. so that bottom fuel line should be completley clear i should be able to disconnect that fuel line and be able to blow into the tank with air and hear bubbles inside right?

and the old fuel pump is still there and the wiring harness that it plugs into... albeit old and crusty, im sure it doesnt work anymore. I will se if i cant snap a few pix after work today

Hey do i really need to have 2 fuel pumps this car? what was the reasoning behind having 2 pumps? was it a performance issue? ive also read that some guys do away with the mechanical pump and just run an electric. But i kinda feel like that takes away from the charm of that old motor

in all my years of fiddling with cars i never seen a car with 2 pumps

ok the tank has been removed, cleaned, and is drying.

now the HUGE problem that i have found, is it looks like there are 2 vent tubes @ the top of the tank that run into the hatch area they are braided lines and are OG

they are completely rotted away and crushed. I can see no way to change out these lines that run up into the carbody without cutting into the hatch area

Can these lines be capped off? can these lines be rerouted to vent somewhere else ? here are a few pix

The vent hoses go up to the vapor tank in the right pillar area. If you remove the interior plastic trim panels you can see all the hoses. They can be replaced, and if the tank has been dropped already it's not that hard to do.

Or you can rework the system to eliminate the vapor tank, and a few of the hoses. But you can't simply cap them all off, as you need some of them for venting.
