Help me price this 240z please

Hey guys,

My dad has asked to help him sell his 240z, I honestly have no idea what the market is like other than what I've seen on craigslist and I would very much appreciate any help you could provide.

Stats:

-1973 240z

-Factory rebuilt engine with 40k on it

-Total miles 160k on the car

-Paint and interior in poor shape

-Webber carb, new plugs, wires, power booster

-Also has spare motor with a good transmission in storage

-New factory clutch

The car is not currently running, it was worked on about 1.5 years ago by a local guy who put the new carb/plugs/wires/power booster on it and had it running decently. Since then its unfortunately been sitting pretty much dormant and my dad has decided its time to get into better hands.

That's basically all the info I have currently, but I can always retrieve more for him. Any help on the price point would be very helpful, he enjoyed the car a lot when I was younger but he is nearing retirement and wanting to let it go.

Thanks in advance!

You need to post photos of the interior and typical rust areas, do you have the matching engine ?

A car sitting in the field like this, sunk 4 inches in to the soil is prone to rust so it could be anything from $300 to $1500

In addition to what has already been said, I think it would do you (and your dad) a world of good to get that beast running again.

If you can get it into a condition where a potential buyer could theoretically drive it away then I think you could realistically ask for more.

So, change fluids, tune up stuff (get it out of that grass for chrissake), maybe even wash/polish/wax?

... though part of me deeply suspects that if you do that, your dad might change his mind about selling it. LOL

yeah agree with all that was said. if the car indeed was a good running car before parked you should try and get it running. if i was a potential buyer and you told me that this car had all this stuff replaced and it was running good, but sat unmoved for 1.5 yrs. i would question the truth behind what you were saying. just my thought. wouldnt you think the same?

A noob question here: what would the typical rust areas be?

I agree that the car is certainly prone to rust, personally after seeing some of the cars on the road/market I see this being more of a parts car tbh.

It may have been rebuilt at some point, but "factory rebuilt" it was not. Try to stay away from terms like this as they often denote a seller that is trying to embellish the truth.

hmm, perhaps the correct term would be "factory certified?" I'll have to check with him later, but I remember seeing some type of paperwork in reference to it being either "rebuilt" or "recertified," something of that nature.

Thank you both very much for your responses.

Courtesy Nissan used to or maybe still sells engines like that but none of them were/are 'factory rebuilt' or even 'factory certified'. They're done by an outside source just as any rebuilt engine you'd get from any other source. Nissan isn't in the business of rebuilding or even certifying 30+ year old engines.

I don't know how much I'd invest in getting it running, although it would sell for more that way. Based just on what I can see, even running, I doubt it's worth more than $1,000. It looks like the body needs a lot of work, most of the chrome is bad, Weber carbs  , the interiors bad, etc. And sitting in that field for years, I'm sure the floors (and probably the frame rails) are toast.

Probably a $300 - $500 parts car if not running, and still under $1,000 running. Just my .02.

Floorboards, frame rails (in engine compartment, behind front wheels, and under floorboards), hatch sill, doglegs, rocker panels, battery tray (from inside engine compartment and wheel well), radiator support (upper and lower).
