seems like you already set your mind on selling it. atleast thats what it sounds like from reading your first post. if your gonna get any where near that price get ready to dish out some cash money to advertise it with as many widely known private car sales ad. in all honesty id avoid ebay 60bux and only use as last resort. for 60bux you better off with autotrader and cars.com which allow your ad to run much much longer.

I think he's still considering. My case is different. I already have a plan that doesn't include things like eBay or Craig's list. No shipping, no interstate sales, etc. There's no urgency and I don't 'need' the money. I'll be basically selling these cars for what I have in them. And if I can't get that, I'll donate them.

While I have no thoughts right now about selling my 240Z, the reality is that my motor vehicle obsessions tend to last 5-8 years, and then I sell and move on to something else.

With the exception of the Datsun 240-Z that has been my experience as well. Over the past 40 years there have been at least 20 other automotive interests that have all come and gone.. but the 240-Z always stayed. Without regard to "price" it is the best Sports/GT we will most likely see in our lifetime.

People will still be driving them 40 years from now..

FWIW,

Carl B.

So what are you sayin Arne? Your going to throw in the towel too in the next few years??? come on gang where is your love for the classic DatsunZ?Unless you really need the extra dollars I just gotta ask why??? Impractical?? Of course they are. What old classic car/truck isn't. You have them purely for your fun & entertainment (taking nice cruises on beautiful sunny days/evenings, working on them keeping them in tip top shape, cleaning and polishing them up nice to show off your pride and joy ect. Thats my view on the subject anyways. My Z gives me a break from the daily grind. After a long hard work week I just look forward to be able to have a break by climbing in the drivers seat of my Z and hitting the curvey country roads with some good classic 70's rock songs coming out of the radio or just hearing that L28 roar under that sculpted hood as I shift through the gears thinking "All my hard work into this Z has really paid off :D:D " I can't think of anything more fun and entertaining than that but thats just me. I know some people like the original poster of this thread share the same love but they either have financial or family issues like little kids to think about first which I totally understand and wish them the very best.

Hopefully I don't catch hell for anything I just said. Just wanted to express my feelings on the topic :) Seems like there are too many losing interest lately (not just here on the site)

I don't think so now, but I can't rule it out.

Actually, I refuse to own a car that I only use that sparingly. All of my previous project/hobby cars have been driven daily, used as normal transportation, in addition to being weekend entertainment. My 240Z is no different. I drive it when I want to, to work a few times a week, and if it rains, no big deal.

I enjoy restoring and working on my cars, and making them conform to my vision of what they should be. In the past, I sometimes have gotten bored with a car once it was "done". That's a sure sign of it being time to move on.

Which actually bodes well for my keeping the Z for a long while, even once it is "done". (It's not there yet, BTW.) Because when this last time came to pick a project, I had a whole list of criteria to try to make certain I'd buy a car that I could live with for a while. The 240Z best met all my criteria, so maybe it is THE car I'll finish with. Hard to say right now.

Yeah, that pretty much describes it for me as well. I don't even have to drive it, just going into the garage and dinking around with it, or even just looking at it is pleasurable. But once that magic goes away (if it does), there's no point in hanging on.

Driving it was just one example. I get lots of enjoyment just spending time in the garage with it as well.

If your not super paranoid (Like me :D ) with your classic vehicle worrying about some careless jelious bone head throwing there car door into the side of it, shopping carts slamming into it, old man winter eating it alive ect. then hey good for you. hell I even worry about my daily driver too but what can ya do? Thats just who I am. I spend good time, hard work and hard earned $$$ on both my vehicles and just want to keep them as nice as I can. Either way if your working hard to keep a classic Z alive and well then you got my respect.

I hope the magic feeling never goes away for you man. The Z community needs ya ;)

Its not that the magic has left, or my interest have changed, its just that my prioritys have. No matter how much I love my Z, I love my son and the life my wife and I have come acustome to more then the car. The way I see it at the moment is I can part with the car, or I can part with my home (and we all know that will cause all kinds of problems down the road). I love the Z, its my 4th one and took me just over 3 years to build in my garage. My first Z was a forest green 70 auto stocker that I accidently wrecked when I was 16. After that I bought a 73 shell that I had planned on putting a 327 into but someone offered me enough money for the shell that I parted with the project. Which gave me the funding to buy a 72 that I put a small block 302 in that I turned into a 351 roller motor tubed out the car 10pt cage etc., that car was tons of fun but got me into a lot of trouble and once again got an offer I couldnt refuse. Then I found this one sitting in a garage un touched for over 20 years just waiting for someone to build it up and get it back on the road again. I planned for this Z to be my kids college fund long before I even had a kid. Back when I first bought it I got custom plates with the name I was going to name my son (back in 2003) and finally when I had a son in 2008 I kept the same name I planned 5 years prior to him being born. This car was supposed to be his college tuition, trust me I never planned on selling. But then again I never planned on being jobless with a 9 month old either.... Sadly plans change.

I hear ya man which is why I said "I know some people like the original poster of this thread share the same love but they either have financial or family issues like little kids to think about first which I totally understand and wish them the very best."

Any hobby like a classic car hobby is fun and great IF your able to do it but family for sure is priority #1 You have your priorities in the right order by putting your family first. Keep up your hard efforts man and hopefully later on down the road when your situation improves, you can give another Z a good home :)

Joe, I know your pain. I had to do that many years ago when kids came along. The priority is your family the Z comes second. Things such as camping with your son are things he'll remember at his age now. If you need to sell it for monetary reasons that's what you have to do. When your son get's to the age of being interested in cars(which he will) and you can afford it then it's time to get a project Zcar you and him can share. That's what happened with my son and me and now he has his own 73Z and is a Z nut.
