ChrisB77 Posted April 20, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2009 Well guys, Saturday turned out great! My 77 Z has been parked since 91. Fuel system was in horrible shape. Fuel tank was extremely rusty, pump wouldn't run and injectors were plugged with rust and wouldn't click when voltage was applied. I removed the tank and sent it out for repair at a local shop. Still isn't back yet. New pump and injectors arrived Thursday. I removed the fuel rail, refinished it and installed the remanned injectors. Got the rail installed and attached a pressurized fuel canister to it. Climed in and hit the key! 3 revs and she FIRED UP! Amazing! No missing, smoking , nothing but smooth fast idle. The guys in the shop were stunned that this car sounded so good after being parked for so long. Can't wait to here her run again tomorrow!
sblake01 Posted April 20, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 20, 2009 A pressurized fuel canister is the best investment you can make if you intend to own and maintain EFI cars. Testing, cleaning, and troubleshooting have become much easier since I bought mine a few years ago.
conedodger Posted April 20, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 20, 2009 I have always found the L6 to be an engine that will tolerate just about any abuse except overheating. Overheating will cost you a head. Nice save. You should go into medicine!
Bonzi Lon Posted April 20, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 20, 2009 The resurection of my 73 was like yours except mine sat for 28 years between fireings. Your right, what a fun day that was.Bonzi Lon
chiefmd Posted April 20, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 20, 2009 What make of pressurized fuel canister do you recommend, or does it matter.
sblake01 Posted April 21, 2009 Share #6 Posted April 21, 2009 I don't think the make really matters but I would suggest one with dual gauges. This is the one I use and the chemicals I use with it: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showpost.php?p=256648&postcount=
