I'm restoring what I believe to be a 70/71 model 240z. It's build number 418 but the tags say the car is a 72 mdl??? could be the year the car was complianced (in Australia)

I've discovered that the Z is missing a fuse box. Is the fuse box a 'quick plug in' or would someone have tampered with the wiring? I've found a few lugs that are not connected and are located near the stereo - do these plug into the fusebox??? The car has no centre console, so I don't know if the fuse box is the type under the radio or next to the driver kick-panel. Any advice would be great......

Thanx.

If I am thinking correctly, the fuse block was not moved to the kick panel until the latter part of 74 here in the US when they replaced the carbs with the F.I.

So if you have carbs it should be under the console. You should be able to replace it without too much trouble. But if someone has been in there and done a "hack" job on it, it is hard to tell what they might have done. The fuse plugs near the stereo might be for the stereo. The fuse panel itself is plastic and you can't take the lugs out of it as they would be open and definately cause a short.

If you have a way of taking a pic of the area and attaching it, it might help one of us to tell if it has been messed with or not.

I bought the car as a rolling shell, was completely stripped. I will take pics as soon as I can and post them. I don't think the plugs are for the stereo, too big and too many! No use trying to describe them now, I'll wait till I post the pics. Thanks for the reply.

I agree with you Ed, it is a big puzzle! Only reason I took it cauz it was build #418 - very early model. I've restored a 260z in the past, 2 year process and it was well worth it! I just bought another 73 240z last night, so I'm gona be quite busy! When I restored the 260, I had it back to a rolling shell, so it's not so bad with the 240z; although I'm having a little trouble with the hatch! I removed the roof skin cauz it had a sunroof and I put a new skin on.......at the time I didn't have a hatch, so it was a lot of guess work! Now the hatch/roof are about a 1-2mm off..... So that's gona be fun!
