Posted April 28, 200915 yr comment_282041 In case you have been on EBay you may have noticed my Green 71 listed, lots of looker's but not many bids......ok, high bids.Do you guys think my floors are hurting me that bad, I guess I should have replaced them and then listed it, oh well. If it doesn't met the reserve I'll get to it this fall. The 70 model should be ready in 2 to 4 weeks, and of course we went over budget, but this car will be perfect when were done. Would like to keep both but I can't find the extra money tree seeds......Randy Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31683-lots-of-looks-but-not-many-bids-on-my-71/ Share on other sites
April 28, 200915 yr comment_282044 I saw it this morning and looked at your ad. I knew it was yours because of your avatar pic. No offense but the floors scared me a bit. The car looks great, but it looks like there may be some rust on the edges of those old floors and the description doesnt say you knocked it all out for sure. Maybe a few more pics of the floors to show everyone they're ok?Again, not trying to be critical I just remembered looking at the floors. Good luck with the sale and I hope that doesnt hurt your price too much. April 29, 200915 yr Author comment_282053 Hey Zak,No offense taken at all, I was hoping to get some critical advice. I really should have waited and just had the shop put in the new floors and cut away everything else, if it doesn't hit the reserve thats the plan, but it will be late in the year. What else do you guys see that I need to improve? I'm a driver not really an expert at the specifics, so any advice being positive or negative is welcomed. Thanks folks, Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31683-lots-of-looks-but-not-many-bids-on-my-71/#findComment-282053 Share on other sites
April 29, 200915 yr comment_282054 Well, if you're selling it.. who cares? Weigh the dollar amount it will take to bring it to your liking versus the dollar amount you'd recover in a sale. If you think you'd come out ahead and are willing to devote your time to it then do it. If I was selling it I would reserve myself to the fact that I might get less due to the PO's floor repair and just move forward with the sale. April 29, 200915 yr comment_282058 Randy,I've been watching your car too. Another thing that seemed a little troublesome are the welded patches in the engine bay. The one under the data plate looks rough and like the data plate was left in when the welding was done and may have damaged it. What was the reason for the patching?-Mike Edited April 29, 200915 yr by Mike B typo Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31683-lots-of-looks-but-not-many-bids-on-my-71/#findComment-282058 Share on other sites

What was the reason for the patching? -Mike Hey Mike, There was a small rust hole that the PO had cut out too much around it and welded in that patch and more fiberglass. The plate is actually fine, the picture doesn't show it like it should. Compared to most EBay sellers I'm just way too honest, I could have used pictures to make this car look like it was perfect, but I'm just not like that, I want to disclose everything I can. Tim, Your right, it's awful hard to video with one hand, while driving and changing gears with the other........but I'm a professional......., :stupid: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31683-lots-of-looks-but-not-many-bids-on-my-71/#findComment-282063 Share on other sites
April 29, 200915 yr comment_282066 Your honesty is to be commended. I wish the seller of my 240Z had been a little more like you.Outside of the floors, you have a very nice car. Fix the floors and you could get good money for it. With the floors as they are, it will scare away most buyers. The people who will consider it are likely looking for a significant discount so they can fix up and re-sell. I'd highly suggest doing the fix but up to you.Good luck with the sale. April 29, 200915 yr comment_282076 Randy,If you don't mind me asking what is your reserve? I think the market overall is pretty soft right now. I am considering selling my 1972 before too long, but I'm not too optimistic that is would bring a decent price in the current market, so I may wind up just storing it for a while.I agree the floors are the biggest draw back to your car, so it may make sense to have them fixed first. You may also want to clean up the engine bay some to get the most money for the car. It looks like there are some worn braided and aftermarket hoses.-Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31683-lots-of-looks-but-not-many-bids-on-my-71/#findComment-282076 Share on other sites
April 29, 200915 yr comment_282113 Randy, I saw your car on eBay, and was planning to call and harrass you about it I agree with Mike B that the market is a bit soft right now, and would say that if you don't need the $$$ immediately (like to buy your lift, ) that you could spend $800 for new floors and get the engine bay cleaned up and repainted to look better and significantly increase your $$$ when the market improves Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31683-lots-of-looks-but-not-many-bids-on-my-71/#findComment-282113 Share on other sites
April 29, 200915 yr comment_282125 Swine flu , gas price instability , and of course the economy aren't helping anybody sell old, used, insignificant cars right now. I have a nice '73 Vette roadster that I couldn't give away in this market climate . Lots of looks but$19,000 CDN ? No way . Your car isn't too bad , maybe ebay isn't the rightplace for it. Good luck ! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31683-lots-of-looks-but-not-many-bids-on-my-71/#findComment-282125 Share on other sites
April 29, 200915 yr Author comment_282126 Hey guys,Thanks for the input, that was my original plan but with ebay only charging $9.00 to list it I thought I would see how it faired.Your right I don't have to sell it, but it would be easier to complete 797 if I did.......patience....Randy......patience.........and I could get the lift!!!!Here are a few of the emails I got.............."Dear seller, If you end the auction now I will send you $3500 cash!...don't delay".......... "Dear seller, you do realize your car is 38 years old, I will give you $2,000 for it if you end the auction now and haul it away for free"But my favorite is......"Dear seller, The Datsun brand is no longer being made, parts can't be found and the 240 was the worst of the Z series. I wil be happy to send you $3,000 for the car if you end the auction now".I was actually looking forward to the emails just to bring a little laughter to my day.
