Thanks for all the tips guys. Looking around the web I found other people suggesting the vinegar like Carl suggested. I guess you are suppose to use baking soda then to neutralize the acidity of the vinegar? It seems simple green is a popular choice as well. Apparently a product called "odorxit" is another possibility if conventional methods prove unsuccessful. I guess you can get an ozone generator that is suppose to work very well, but I also heard it can accelerate any rusting, which I already have way more than I care to deal with, so don't need to make it any worse. I am a little leery about putting strong chemicals on the inner body paint as well. I think first crack I will try the vinegar and maybe the simple green on the body, and freebreeze on the carpets and let you know the results.

You should also check underneath the cowl panel to see if there is anything in there. I had a parts car once that had been stored in a barn for several years. The entire cowl area was a huge nest and it went all the way down into the air blower motor. I couldn't get rid of that car fast enough.

I had to laugh when I saw the title of this thread because it reminded me of when I went to pick the Z up from my folks. They stored the car in a barn (a nice barn with cement floor) for a long period of time. As I was working under the hood replacing the old rubber hoses and belts, I saw several areas where there were chunks of green stuff. Turns out they put mouse/rat poison in the corners of the engine compartment. I thought it was very funny at the time. Really glad they did after reading your story.

When I put the car away I remember being mad because I bought moth balls to put around the car, and this place was in the middle of no where so I couldn't just go buy some. Man am I kicking myself for being forgetful.

They couldn't nest in the parts car I don't care about either of course... that one smells great!

This smell is very difficult to get rid of. I've used lots of vinegar and simple green, but the smell remains. It's much better, but it's not easy to get rid of. I'm just gutting down to the shell until I'm sure I have every nook and cranny cleaned out well.

Male cat pee/spray has got to be one of the worst smells on the planet. If that method actually works Carl, that is an excellent tip.

Yep, white vinegar does work! My two female cats literally got into a pissing contest awhile back and white vinegar was the most effective meathod for getting rid of the odor. I followed it up with simple green which also helped to eliminate the residual vinegar odor.

It's horrible isn't it I thought of this thread last week while I was at work. I was working on a motorhome that a guy brought in and wanted all the appliances checked. I fired up the furnace and cooked a nest of baby mice. Now that smelled like living hell :sick::sick: wasn't fun to clean out either. Had to pull out the entire furnace and ducts.
