Hi Rich:

Ok - found it.

A father and son brought out a car that had been sitting in the father’s parents’ garage for something like twenty five years!

OK - that sentence, with its indirect references - - had me thinking of another 70 240-Z that a Father and Son brought to the National Z Car Convention in New York a few years ago. In that case the car actually belonged to the Grandfather, and he had just given it to his Grandson. As I recall it was the light yellow.... with extremely low mileage.. like 28K miles or something...

One friend of mine was really torn between offering the Grandson a serious amount of money for the car - or NOT.

After talking to the Father and Son, my friend could tell that the car held a great deal of sentimental value to the family and he didn't want to put any pressure on them to sell it, nor did he want to have them regretting the fact that they did or did not sell it later.

We talked about the pro's and con's of making the offer for several hours that day... and in the end my friend decided it would be best for them, if he didn't make the offer. Although my friend really wanted that Z, and the offer would have made most people's head spin...

I argued that sum of money would have paid for a year or two of college for the Grandson.... or would have been a good downpayment on a home... My friend replied that both of us had worked our way though college, and both of us had bought homes.... but you really can't replace a 240-Z like that....

How true, how true...

Man, that's a tough call. The counterpoint is that some schlub might offer a lower number which they will take and the Z will fall into poor ownership...and they won't have realized full value...tough call...

As the new owner of the 240Z noted in the article, I honestly have to say that I had no idea what I had until I took it to the show and spoke with people there. After hearing what people had to say, I realize that the car is a true gem. I am looking forward to taking great care of it as my father did and enjoying its beauty and design. I appreciate all the words of wisdom and advice here. Very helpful.

Hey my memorial to my car made it into the pictures, w00t!! I figured I was a shoe in for "work in progress" as it died on the way to the show, how much more work in progress can you get eh? But alas the general public did not see it that way
