May 18, 200915 yr Author comment_284083 I'll post the pics as soon as I pick up the head. This is what's so cool about the L-series motors........people are always trying to squeeze that extra streetable h.p. out of a 35 year old motor! July 25, 200915 yr Author comment_290379 Carl.....Here's a close-up of the P79 head shaved .080 in. You said you wanted to see the combustion chambers. July 26, 200915 yr comment_290415 Guy please stop showing the pictures of your engine! I am drolling all over my key board. Great Job!! Gary Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31871-new-l-28-for-my-72/?&page=2#findComment-290415 Share on other sites

Quite a difference from the E31/E88 chamber design. The quench area is quite flat compared to the more hemispherical design of the earlier heads. Looks like some very fine work there. Very interesting.. I'm going to steal some pictures from you guys for my image files.. This time I'll remember to put names on them... Early E88 on the Left and late {73/74} on the Right thanks, Carl B. July 26, 200915 yr Author comment_290433 Carl....Yes the P90 and P79 are identical except for exhaust ports and liners in the P79.They boast the best quench of all the heads and according to Doc, allow a better "burn". I believe that they are referred to as the "peanut heads". July 26, 200915 yr comment_290434 Hi Guy: Here for example is the "peanut head" W53 from an L16. The valves seem to be set quite a bit deeper in the head. FWIW, Carl B. July 26, 200915 yr Author comment_290436 I agree.....Remember the P79 is shaved .080.....Would the W53 look the same if shaved? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31871-new-l-28-for-my-72/?&page=2#findComment-290436 Share on other sites
July 28, 200915 yr comment_290579 Very interesting. I was considering sticking with the P79 on my F54 build as well. I'm almost committed but Rebello feels that the N42 head has the most potential. That said, I'm not looking to take things to the max anway. I don't think they're convinced that the exhaust liners flow as well as the N42 square ports when smoothed out. One reason I'd like to stay with the P79 is so I can use my vintage Clifford 6 into 2 coated round round tube header. It's awfully purty. Yes...I'm just showing off my bling here. July 28, 200915 yr Author comment_290591 Rebello knows what they're talking about (obviously)........Here's a good web-site with a wealth of info. He discusses the P79 and what he's found regarding the exhaust liners (he doesn't think they are very restrictive). The headers look great! Good Luck! http://www.datsunzgarage.com/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31871-new-l-28-for-my-72/?&page=2#findComment-290591 Share on other sites
July 28, 200915 yr comment_290594 Wow, I hope that engine runs as good as it looks. I think the moral of the story regarding compression is that you don't really know what you've got unless you measure it, including cc'ing the head and counting deck height clearance cc's.That thing sure is purty. Can't wait to see how well it runs on the dyno. Kudo's for running SU's. They really are great!Greg Ira Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31871-new-l-28-for-my-72/?&page=2#findComment-290594 Share on other sites
