May 19, 200915 yr comment_284128 chris if you use the method I suggest you wont turn the engine. Thats why you use the side of the block and the clutch plate bolt holes. But if you are looking for a reason to get a new impact then this would be it. May 19, 200915 yr comment_284137 Just rotate the engine until #1 is coming up on compression stroke , both valves will be closed. Insert about 6'' or so of cotton rope in the spark plug hole, leave a tag end sticking out . Continue the rotation and the piston will stop on the compressed rope . Remove what bolts you need to . Remove the short rope and you are good to go. No harm no fowl. May 19, 200915 yr comment_284145 Thanks 73with76!!!280 master..... Sears often has their 250-350lb impact on sale for $30 and it's a craftsman!!! An impact is not a want it is a need with working on cars. If you want to go even cheaper, go to Harbor Freight Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/31898-how-to-remove-the-flywheel/?&page=2#findComment-284145 Share on other sites
