Cessna Posted June 1, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 1, 2009 Not an emergency, just Not sure where to post - so If I need to post elsewhere please let me know. New to forum and need some help in getting started and some information. I have already killed a couple trees printing off forums. 1972 240(HLS30-95298) 68,000 miles sitting since 86, no body rust to speak off, outcome is to put back to original condition Engine was ( i said was) stuck, passenger side floor pan rusty(ed)(needs replaced) and spare tire well rusted(same situation as floor). Engine as fired, but not started yet, still some work to do before I expect this. 1)Looking for a reputably company to buy replacement parts from, everything from weatherstripping to door panels to console, Who have you had good experience with, don't need to know bad just good. 2) Manuals who has a good one out there and where to buy. 3) Ignition key, kind of works, kind of don't work , replace ignition or new key? and where would I find the key designation?(not in glove box) Thxs in advance Joel Solon, Iowa

MaximumHP Posted June 1, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 1, 2009 How to restore your Datsun Z by Wick Humble and the typical Chilton and Haynes manuals have been useful for me.
hls30.com Posted June 1, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 1, 2009 (edited) 1) I doubt you will find a single vendor to buy everything from, the '72 console is NLA, and you probably won't find a vendor with any new ones, if you do, they won't have a new ashtray cover for the new console, and I know of only one vendor who has new fuse box covers(and he knows he is the only one). There are a few items enthusaists hoard, and they are damn near unobtanium-no matter who the vendor. MSA/Black Dragon have most of what you will need, though you can find some of it less expensively elsewhere.Your best bet is to do just what you did, and lose the expectation to get everything from a single vendor.2) Ebay is a great source for the original Datsun/Nissan Factory Service Manuals, new ones can be had almost any day of the week for a little less than $100 shipped, if you are patient, you can pick up a great one for $25-$40 or so.You also might want to pick this up: Wick Humble, How TO Restore your Z CAR. Least expensive way to buy it I have found.3) There are ignition lock/key sets that are compatable on ebay-once in place, almost no one will know the difference-one guy in (Malasia?) sells them(PM me for the seller) and the rest of the sellers buy his, paint them black, call them original and ask $100 or more for them...they are not originial, but when you see a pretty new ign switch and key, and it fits like it was made for the car, who will question it? Almost no one.You could also find a really good lock smith and have yours rebuilt-I think we have a memeber here who might well help you with that. Will Edited June 1, 2009 by hls30.com
