Posted June 2, 200915 yr comment_285423 My son's z has a vin number HLS30-156865 and mfg. date of 4/73. Is this car a 240z? My internet surfing has given me conflicting info. One site said the 240 production numbers up to 150,000,after that they wre 260's.Another said the 240's were made up to 2/73? The car we have is titled as a 240z. I'm looking for info on what this car is. Thanks, Roger Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32056-is-my-car-a-240-or-260/ Share on other sites
June 2, 200915 yr comment_285424 It's a 240Z. The 260Z VIN didn't start with H, it started with R. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32056-is-my-car-a-240-or-260/#findComment-285424 Share on other sites
June 2, 200915 yr comment_285425 The 260Z also had a few differences like the motor displacement. The engine serial number located on the block below the #6 spark plug should start with L26 if it is a 260Z motor. Also the bumper overiders on an early 260Z are all rubber unlike a 240Z which is chrome with a rubber strip on top. 4/73 is pretty early in the year for Nissan to switch models to 260Z, but i guess anything is possible. June 2, 200915 yr comment_285479 Also the taillights are different. On the 240Z, all of the taillights are in one pod, whereas on the 260Z, the reverse lights were separate. My 240Z was manufactured in 7/73 and has the serial number of HLS-170039. I believe the 260Zs started porduction in August '73.
