HS30-H Posted June 2, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 2, 2009 What's this doing in the 'Z Car History Forum'?If BRE have something to sell, they should sell it in the Classifieds section just like everyone else. If they want a bit more exposure, they can contact Admin to negotiate a banner ad at a suitable fee, I'm sure.
hls30.com Posted June 2, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted June 2, 2009 (edited) Alan,I put it in the history forum. I am not associated with BRE, and get nothing for posting it, and they had nothing to do with it. There were a healthy number of members expressed an interest in these when they came available, so I posted that what was once available (the History tie-in) is again. I can see your point about vendor involvement, and I will look into moving the notice to the chit chat forum.WillDone! HS30-H Posted June 2, 2009 Share #6 Posted June 2, 2009 Will,How about putting it in the 'Chit Chat' forums after BRE pay for a banner ad?MSA pay for a banner ad here, and they sell car covers too. If I were MSA I would not be amused to see BRE's car covers getting a free endorsement and their own thread here.BRE are a commercial enterprise, after all. hls30.com Posted June 2, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted June 2, 2009 (edited) Alan, I see your point.I do see some differences between this situation and the one you are concerned with.1) The car covers sold by MSA are not the same as those sold by BRE-meaning someone in the market for a BRE car cover would not accept a fitted non-BRE car cover as a substitute. I would not. What this means is the market for a BRE car cover is not the market for a fitted non BRE car cover, meaning in this specific instance BRE is NOT competing for the customers of the MSA covers. Customers for a BRE cover would not buy a MSA cover anyway-unless MSA starts selling BRE covers.2) No tangeable benefit to the poster. I get nothing from sales from BRE or MSA. 3) IF MSA gets something "Way Cool" or "Must Have" or "WOW, you need to know about this" I would post about it too. I would treat vendors the same in the same circumstance. I do not know the vendor agreement Mike worked out with his supporting vendors, if what I have posted is contrary to its terms, of course I will delete the thread, and apologize to MSA for the thread. Will Edited June 2, 2009 by hls30.com
Mike B Posted June 2, 2009 Share #8 Posted June 2, 2009 BRE has rereleased the BRE Z and 510 covers, and made an email pinup model out of MikeB-and his Z! Funny! I didn't know they were actually going to use the picture with me in it or I would have sucked my gut in some:). Mrs Brock wanted to test out the car cover fit before she started sending them out across the country, and I think I am the only person close by that they know with a Z. Anyway, they are very nice people and it is always fun to talk to them. Peter looked my Z over for a long time. I think it has been awhile since he has seen one as stock as mine. He seemed really impressed with the original hubcaps that I have on it now and he liked the red with white interior combination. I should have brought two Z's and a couple of LeMans wheels over and we could have recreated the original photo! Did anyone notice anything about the picture of the 510 with the cover on it? Carl, I was surprised that it was a different design than the original one you posted pictures of in this old thread http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showpost.php?p=211600&postcount=14. I asked the Brocks about it, but they didn't recall the type you have. -Mike
Mr Camouflage Posted June 2, 2009 Share #9 Posted June 2, 2009 The way I see it, its just one member talking about a product that's available. Whether the maker of the product is a sponsor of this site or not is not relevant. Not letting members discuss products unless the products creator is a paid sponsor seems a bit draconian. Maybe we should we not talk about factory Nissan parts anymore, since Nissan isn't a site sponsor? Japanese Nostalgic Car magazine have a syndicated thread here, but don't appear to be a sponsor. Do you suggest Nissan Sport magazine should complain and get that syndication removed?Should Rebello have a whinge everytime a member recommend Sunbelt?Should MSA spit the dummy when someone mentions Too Intense Restoration? Will is a supporting member, by the way. Mr Camouflage Posted June 2, 2009 Share #10 Posted June 2, 2009 Did anyone notice anything about the picture of the 510 with the cover on it?-Mike Umm, It isn't a 510?. Bumper looks wrong.
Mike B Posted June 2, 2009 Share #11 Posted June 2, 2009 (edited) Umm, It isn't a 510?. Bumper looks wrong.Correct. It is Mrs Brock's BMW 2002. They have their "Datzilla" 510 in for tuning, and the shop was closed yesterday. I think they plan to take a picture of the cover on the right car today and update the photo on their site.Edit: Guess I should have read the text for the 510 cover on the BRE site. Gayle already notes that is the ad. :stupid:-Mike Edited June 2, 2009 by Mike B

Maybe we should we not talk about factory Nissan parts anymore, since Nissan isn't a site sponsor? I take your point, but this is just one of what seems like several BRE-related posts that - basically - have been linked to something that BRE are selling. Posters, photos, that kind of stuff. It has been starting to look to me like BRE have been getting quite a bit of subliminal advertising on the forum, and it's much more than people just discussing / comparing the product. It seems a little out of proportion in comparison to other suppliers, and its relevance in the 'Z History' forum seems extremely tenuous to me.Considering that BRE control the use of their logo and ( even ) their 'trademark' paint schemes - and charge people for the right to use them - I think a little bit of what's good for Paul is good for Peter too....., no? Will is a supporting member, by the way.So am I.
