Weekend Z experience

I had to share a little story from the weekend. My dad and I (diseazd) decided to take the his 72 Z and my 72 510 for a bit of a joy ride. I called up a friend of mine who is building a 510 at a warehouse near the airport and he told us to stop by. The guy is a computer engineer and builds tuning systems with displays for all types of high po cars. He even does some govt work. I apologize in advance as I didn't have my camera with me for all this :( I will go back soon though :) I added a few cell photos. That's my dad sitting in the passenger seat

When I pulled up I couldn't help but smile ear to ear. The first thing I notice in this mammoth space was a row of cars in one area. I also noticed a 510 in the other area set in front of a rack full of transmissions and motors.

The first car in the line was a blue Datsun 260z. This car was dynoed at 500 RWHP. It has a fully built RB26 from an R34 GTR with a single turbo.

The 260Z had 14" rotors on all 4 with 6 piston Willwoods!!! It was incredible. I was very impressed with how well everything was executed.

Next was a brand new GTR :) Then some sort of demolition derby Monte Carlo and a 1300 hp 4 cyl 7 second Mazda protege wagon!!!! The 510 in the other space is a rust free 4 door with an SR20 being installed. Power steering and the same brake treatment as the 260z. On the wall behind it were RB engines, RB bellhousings and a number of Z32 trans.

The space was large enough to hold 20-30 cars in addition to the full basketball court that is fenced in (inside the warehouse)!!!!

After a quick tour, he took each of us for a ride in the Z. Let me tell you...... I have never in my life been so scared. At 70-80mph he was able to break the tires free like we were at a standstill. Luckily enough he was a very skilled driver and the suspension was so well dialed in that we never did end up in a ditch or anything :) I was screaming bloody murder though. Thought I was going to have a heart attack.

Next he takes each of us for a ride in the GTR!!!! That car is a true supercar!!!! The launch control is spectacular. This is the only car I have ever been in that gives you the rollercoaster stomach feeling from a dead start.

While driving around the industrial area, we come up to a road that makes a 90 degree turn just yards before a woodline. On the other side of that woodline is I95. About 1/8 mile from the turn he stops. Then floors it. He takes the turn at about 80!!! So fast that when we made the turn we were already going much faster than the 95 traffic. I can't imagine what they were thinking when they saw us. To top it all off as we turned around he asked "Do you want to drive it"? I said "Hell yeah"!!!!

I got to drive it for a few minutes and I just mashed the gas and was thrown into my seat. I was mindblown. Even though you can read all about this car..... You truly do not understand until you get some seat time. It is absolutely amazing. I have recently gotten to drive the new 500 hp M5 and a Ferrari 360. Neither even come close to the GTR!!!!!

Ditto to everything Brandon said......This guy could sell rides at $100.00 each. It was the most exhilirating experience I've ever felt in an automobile. If you ever get the chance to ride in the GTR the way it should be driven, offer to pay for the gas and go for it!!!! Just don't go if you have any heart problems what-so-ever! The Skyline powered 240Z was faster than the GTR only very much more dangerous. If you can "light up the tires" at 80, you can imagine some scarey things that can happen. Thanks Russell for letting me know how inferior my cars are!!!! Guy

Man! Reading your story gave me goose bumps and took me back to my first drive in a GTR. I'm a GTR certified tech and was lucky enough to drive the first one we ever got. You just can't imagine how hard this car accelerates until you drive one.The technology in the powertrain is amazing. Enough about that. What I really need is the exact location of this "warehouse";) Thanks for posting the cool pics. Looks like a really cool place.

Chris......You must have had to relearn everything automotive.....2 clutches on one flywheel....I'd love to see the manual on that set-up! The amazing thing is that it's got enough torque to outpull a Cat D-9 but nothing breaks. What an amazing piece of computorized engineering!!!! Guy

It seems my friends cars made quite an impression on my dad. He just ordered the 4 piston Willwoods with 12.2" rotors for all 4 corners :) And getting ready to order coilovers!!!!

I am so excited that he is taking one of the 240's to the next level :classic:
