I know I'll get kicked out of here for saying this but I was hoping to get $4,500 towards a new car by giving them my rusted out old white 240Z that I'm stripping parts off rather than pay to have its remains hauled away....

Guess who pays the $4500.00 ? Where do you think it comes from the tree farm that grows money??? Sure turn in your old Zs and buy a new G. M. ( government Motors ) issue.

If I'm footing the bill for the buffet then I might as well make a plate for myself.

I guess I could just sit back and watch my tax dollars pay 80% of the education costs for the next moron in line to graduate with a useless degree. Add another zero at the end of the above number for that total...

well obama needs to fund his socialist plans somehow. you know work hard to pay for the taxes. if obama raises the standard for MPG any cars that cant meet the standard the BUYER has to pay gas guzzler tax. so it just one of his many schemes to fund his socialist plans. the car doesnt get banned for sale or stop from ever seeing the light of day... it just GETS TAXED more. just one of many schemes to fund all this money he is handing out...i can go on forever on obama "CHANGE" yeah... change america into a socialist america whats next a communist america.

From an "Oh my GOD, our precious (insert favorite old car here) will all be crushed and I'll never be able to restore mine" perspective this bill will have little or no effect. Only running cars insured for the last year can be turned in.

From an economic standpoint it will increase the cost of cheap old drivers for those who can't afford a new car as perfectly serviceable cars get turned in and crushed reducing supply, and the price of new cars will rise somewhat as demand increases. More money available for new cars= more demand= higher prices. Just remember what happened to housing prices when credit was artificially cheap and easy to get.

It will hurt those who are least able to afford a car, help a few, and cost us all the rest of us. The idiots in Washington need to stop messing with the free market.

Since when is it the federal governments job to sell cars. Oh wait, I forgot, they're in the business now. Imagine that.

Come on People - Obama, Obama, Obama..... Bull S.... A President can do very little other than act as the head administrator of the Federal Government. The CONGRESS makes the laws, sets the budget and appropriates the money. The President can't even refuse to spend the money - he has to by Law... remember when a former President tried to cut the size of the Federal Workforce?.... well he couldn't because the laws were passed that forced him to spend the money....

If you don't want a Socialist America - focus on changing the Congress.

the president has the power to set things in motion. the president cant do everything he wants to do, but has the influence to make the micro changes. the cash for clunkers was probably not exactly what obama had envisioned, but as the bill went through its channels this is what they were able to come to agree upon to satisfy both sides. now it will go to obama and he will see if he is satisfied with how they put his vision into act. if the president pushes issues and it never goes through than what do you think will happen??? fate will be lost in the american government. the government already walks a thin line and if they dont satisfy the people american will revolt.

so in short obamas socialist america is just that obamas. the man with the influence to get the wealthy to vote for him. even though it means they have to pay more taxes than anyone else. AND... obama has accomplished something no president has never been able to do and thats get the votes of the uneducated and in mass quantities. its a shame when alot of your votes are purely based on the color of your skin. after all you think he would be president if he was white muslim with ties to radical fundamentalist groups that he refuses to denounce?

Time to trade in my 1988 Chevy 1/2 Ton, with 350K+ miles.... My plan is to buy the very least expensive NEW car that I can find.... Make the deal on it first to get the lowest cash price - then tell them I want take advantage of the tax credit.. aka CFC...

I should be able to get a brand new car for about $7K plus the Federal $4,500.00...

$4,500.00 for a $100.00 truck sounds good to me..

Sure glad I didn't take it to the junk yard last month...
