Ugh looking for a new Z car

I can't remember every little detail but some of the simple things like 2.6L (260Z) Vs. 2.4L (240Z) Little bit heavier than the 240Z, and from what I've read they have more emissions junk on them like the carbs for example. The 73 240Z was infected with the undesirable carbs too though. Nothing that can't be corrected ;) Most people swap to the earlier round top 240Z carbs with great success :)

For more detailed differences, try the "Search" feature on this site and MSA sells good books with detailed info. about the 1st gen Z's so try that as well. Theres plenty of info. out there on them, it's just a matter finding it and your off to a good start being here on this site :)

well i know about most stuff but like i hear the 260 has a stiffer body maybe stronger?

carbs i'm not worried about motor i knew about

but like i'm looking for those little details

I would rather have a 70-72 but i can live with a 73/74 260z could be cool

I had a 72 but the rust took and i sold it as a parts car last year to pay bills opps =)

Correction, you can live with 73 240Z/74 260Z ;) 260Z was only one year in 1974 here in the U S of A

hmm good stuff Needs a newer better web page so its easier to find all the info..

Now I just need to look into the motors since 73 got all the emissions crap and 2 mph bumpers seems i would be better off with a 72 down if I keep it stock!

If I did an LS1 down the road maybe the 260 would be better?

Agreed. Are you volunteering? Considering it's being administered by someone who's less interested in the appearance of the web page than the actual content, and the fact that he's probably old enough to be your grandfather (no offense Carl), I think it's just fine and appreciate the fact that he's taken the time to compile, attempt to validate, and share this info with us.

As far as being better off with a 72, that really depends on what's still on the car you buy. The undesirable flat top carbs have in largely already been replaced with the earlier round tops by the POs, and in many cases, the later 2.5 & 5 mph bumpers bumpers have already been replaced for the earlier versions. If not, these items are not tough to do and parts can still be found used or reconditioned.

I intentionally purchased a 73 because I wanted the intermittent wipers, reclining seats, backlit heater console, steel headlight buckets, and a few other items, but mostly because I planned on doing some mods and wanted to leave the earlier cars for those who are looking to do stock restorations. Silly perhaps but that was my thinking. In my case I plan on keeping the stock 2.5 mph bumpers (although that was not the original plan), and the PO already replaced the flat top carbs with round tops so I'm good there.

If you're looking to do a V8 swap I recommend the 280Z. It's got the same exterior S30 body style as the 240 & 260 but the body may be a little stronger. That said, I still recommend some frame connectors and perhaps even some beefing up of the existing frame rails if you can even call them that with a straight face. Good luck with your project.

well i love the stock motor 70-72 but i'm not sure i know how the tell the flat top vs round top carbs. also was 73/74 first year for a/c?

V8 is the maybe years down the road swap

I got other power cars to play with but I like stock smooth great rides
