TomoHawk Posted June 19, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) I hear a lot about Group 1 or Group 8, etc., but I can't find any classification rules. Oops- It's not SCCA, It's VARA or VSCR. It's a vintage classification. Here is a link thxZ Edited June 20, 2009 by TomoHawk
26th-Z Posted June 19, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 19, 2009 I think what you are referring to, Tomo, is the way the SCCA groups the various classes together in their event. Groups would be defined on the event entry form and / or event schedule.
TomoHawk Posted June 19, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) I just found my own answer, so please See post #1, Chris.thxZ Edited June 20, 2009 by TomoHawk
Walter Moore Posted June 20, 2009 Share #4 Posted June 20, 2009 If you download the PDF from that site, it mentions the Datsun only in Group 8, and the over 2 Liter cars are Class C. But Group 8 only extends up to 1972. Group 6 class C might also apply.Perhaps you should specifically ask someone in that group.
EP240Z Posted June 20, 2009 Share #5 Posted June 20, 2009 Group 1 is pre war to hard to try to classiy all the old cars(to few left)a F1 and a Lemans prototype GT may show up so rather than try to classify each they just put them all together irregardless of performance. Group 8 is used mostly to showcase a marc or type (ie. all BRE cars or all Mclarens ect.) again many diff performance levals so just run together. These two groups are less about raceing and just getting the cars out to strut their stuff.
TomoHawk Posted June 20, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted June 20, 2009 (edited) OK, Then I think Group 9 (Exhibition, Featured Marque, etc.) will be the Cooper Minis this year, and they will be doing 60-minute enduros. I will look up the Datsun classification, and see if I can be there for that group, in case there may be some Datsuns. It will be nice to see some cassic cars doing their thing, instead of tuners or F1 screamers. An old-school Formula 1 would be much apreciated!thxZ Edited June 20, 2009 by TomoHawk

TomoHawk Posted June 20, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted June 20, 2009 (edited) As per Murphy's Law, you immediately ( or 5 minutes later ) find an answer after you post a question! I think the information is interesting and will help others, anyway. thxZ Edited June 20, 2009 by TomoHawk

TomoHawk Posted June 27, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) I saw four S30s, and one was in the parking lot where I left it. They put them in Group 8. Today was the first day of qualifying and a workday, so I had the whole place to myself at first, until a few more people finally got there, around lunchtime. Saturday & Sunday are the big days, with Sunday being race-day, but I have other plans. Maybe next year I'll take the tent. preith Posted June 30, 2009 Share #11 Posted June 30, 2009 I saw four S30s, and one was in the parking lot where I left it. They put them in Group 8. I assume you're referring to the Mid-Ohio Vintage Grand Prix this past weekend? If so that's an SVRA event, they have detailed rules on their website as well, http://svra.com/, click under the car info tab. Not all vintage clubs run the same group numbering scheme. The VSCDA you referenced is an exception, they pretty much parallel the SVRA, but HSR differs - wanna say a group 8 car would be group 3 there. The 1972-3 rule doesn't apply as much anymore. SVRA released new S30 rules in '07 for the 260/280Z (also in group 8), '74 to '78 years, which allow an L28 and 4 wheel discs to name a few. This fits nicely with my car, I'll be applying with SVRA shortly, If all goes well I may even be at the M-O event next year. The S30 could technically run group 10 as well in SVRA, but this is catered more toward a later GT2 SCCA prepped car (with slicks). They're pretty much "throwing you to the wolves" in that group anyway as you're up against some exotic machinery which includes newer AMLS cars.
