June 19, 200915 yr comment_287300 I don't know where logan1 lives, so I don't know how valid his comments are to your situation. I agree that for here on the West coast $4k is a thundering lot for that car. But in the Rust Belt? I dunno. June 19, 200915 yr comment_287302 I don't know where logan1 lives, so I don't know how valid his comments are to your situation.I'm guessing Oklahoma based on the plates on his newly purchased car, but he may have just bought it there and live elsewhere. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34783-Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32273-need-your-thought-on-this-car/#findComment-287302 Share on other sites
June 19, 200915 yr comment_287303 $4K, $6K, $8K, $10K...whatever... All depends on what you really want to buy. You just don't want to spend $10K on a car and have it turn out being a $4K car.Given your location - if you want a "project", that will need complete paint and body work, plus refreshing of every aspect of the car - - - then $4K isn't out of the question for that one. On the other hand if you want a 240-Z to own, drive and enjoy - - that will still have lots of things needing attention - then plan on spending at least $12K for one today.Want to jump in the car and have fun driving it across country, or over a couple of States to attend a Z Car meet - and still be proud to say it's yours? Plan on spending $18K up front, or buy a car for $4K and spend the next two years and an additional $20K to get it in the same shape as the car you could have bought for $18K in the first place.I'd go to California and buy this one for $6K.... Far less rust, already inspected by another Z Car person - You would just need better pictures of the undercarriage and interior...http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34935FWIW,Carl B. June 20, 200915 yr comment_287322 Is the car safe to drive in its current condition? It does help if you can enjoy the car and fix it as you go. There is always more work to do than you realize. There is a great place in the Chicago area that specializes in z cars (Ultimate Z). They do good work but are expensive though. Like Carl Beck said, a lot depends on how much money you want to spend on the car. The up front cost is often only the beginning. The car I am restoring was only 500 when I bought it but will have spent well over 10-15 grand on the restoration. It seemed like a bargain at the time. As my body shop guy told me, there isnt any car that cant be restored, it just depends on how much money you spend. Good luck with your decision. I would love to see any pictures of the whole car!carl Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/32273-need-your-thought-on-this-car/#findComment-287322 Share on other sites
